Continue ReadingOn offense, here are five freshmen and sophomores that will make their first varsity playing time with the Oxford Yellow Jackets on Friday nights.
#16 QB Mason Mims (6-3, 190) Sophomore – Is making the transition of not much time with the football team over the Spring but had a great summer and a suitable fall camp. At 6-foot-3, Mims has good size for the QB position. He stands tall over the opposing defenses and is good at presnap reads. He can throw the long ball with a good touch on the short passes to his receivers and running backs. Mims will stand in the pocket to make a throw and is looking to make the pass downfield. Just more than a game manager. Mims can make the big throw with his arm strength. In his first start against 7A James Clemens last Friday, he kept his composure in the pocket while the offense scored twice in the first half.
#22 RB Caleb Wynn Caleb Wynn 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB Oxford | 2026 State AL (5-10, 185) Freshman – Coming off a big game against 7A James Clemens last week. Wynn broke a 90-yard run against James Clemens and finished over 100 rushing yards in the game. Wynn will be the second back playing behind junior Jaydon Thomas. Wynn will play at the next level. He has a great body frame for a running back as a freshman. He has excellent speed and is very explosive at the line of scrimmage. Wynn is learning to protect his quarterback in the pocket but has excellent hands catching the ball out of the backfield.
#17 WR Jaylin Taylor (5-11, 155) Freshman – Jaylin has a chance to be remarkable at the wide receiver position. He has excellent hands and runs with ease on pass routes. Jaylin has great speed and quickness. He will be working on route running in practice to get his timing with his new quarterback. Mims and Taylor were very limited in their off-season time together.
#60 OL Reshad Cunningham Reshad Cunningham 6'3" | 290 lbs | OL Oxford | 2025 State AL (6-3, 285) Sophomore – Reshad is playing at the next level. He has the body type of playing varsity and will be a starter for the next three years at Oxford. His run blocking is already at the next level, and look for him to improve his pass blocking with experience this season. He can stay low on his run blocking for standing at 6-foot-3.
#23 RB/WR Damious Wilson (5-10, 160) Sophomore – Damious can run it or catch it out of the backfield. He is a very shifty runner that can make you miss anytime on the field. Damious has the hands and speed to catch a short pass and take it the distance for a score. Also, he can return kickoffs and can hit the hole with his unbelievable speed. He is a very athletic runner looking to get that ball in space.
