Three more days until the first Friday night of the 2022 high school football season. It seems like forever, since we had football in Texas.

In this article, we'll take a look at some of the more 'under the radar' 2024 prospects throughout the state.

CB Maurice Sherrod – 6'0″ 180 / Lancaster HS — @MauriceSherro8

Sherrod moved from the state of Nebraska over the summer, and from the looks of things, may emerge as a statewide recruit during the season.

Nice size, fluid hips, and a nose for the ball - he'll surely make his presence felt on Friday nights. What I like most about him is his tenacity. He's not afraid to jam receivers at the line and he has no problem flying downhill to put a big hit on you. Keep an eye on the newcomer in 2022.

Has an FCS offer from Alabama A&M.

OT [player_tooltip player_id='276109' first='Nicholas' last='Farris'] – 6'7″ 265 / Parish Episcopal School — @NicholasFarris6

Farris is a big-bodied left tackle for the Panthers, and looks poised to have a great junior season.

The first thing that jumps out, is his imposing frame. Standing at 6'7" and with impressive footwork, he won't have any problems protecting his quarterback's blind side. I'd like to see him fire off with more tenacity, as it would definitely help his recruiting stock. Still, there's a lot to like about the big junior. Farris is the type of high upside offensive tackle many schools will want to have on their roster in 2024.

Currently has no offers.

ATH [player_tooltip player_id='414155' first='Kehinde' last='Atunrase'] – 6'3″ 220 / San Antonio Cole HS — @AtunraseKenny

Atunrase is a highly skilled, high upside athlete that lines up at both tight end and defensive end.

The motor never stops. When lined up at DE, he uses pure power to work his way into the backfield. As a tight end, he flashes a lot of ability both as a blocker and a pass-catcher on vertical routes. He will undoubtedly continue to develop, and could find himself on a lot of recruiting boards as a senior.

Currently has no offers.

DE [player_tooltip player_id='276044' first='Jaden' last='Wincher'] – 6'2″ 245 / Pearland HS — @JadenWincher

Wincher is a new face in Pearland, having recently moved in from Clear Brook.

The tenacity and blue collar grit he plays the game with is fun to watch. He can line up anywhere along the defensive line, and he gets into the backfield with a quick first step and active hands. The youngster attended a number of camps around the country over the summer and got his name out there. He'll look to leave a lasting impression on the gridiron this fall.

DE [player_tooltip player_id='413746' first='Tavion' last='Atkinson'] – 6'5″ 270 / Aldine HS — @TavionAtkinson2

Atkinson is a force along the defensive line who can line up at end or at tackle.

Explodes off the line and speed rushes opposing quarterbacks. He's a can't miss FBS talent who should see his recruiting stock rise with a strong junior season.

Currently has an offer from UTSA.
