DL/OL Clinton Barlow – Charlotte Catholic – Though he is known more on the offensive side of things, big Clint played some defensive tackle and helped slow the inside run game of the Ragin Bulls throughout the game. He has great size at 6’4 and 300+ pounds and has ACC interest. We interviewed him after the game:
LB Luke Gilbertson – Hickory Ridge – Luke was very physical all night long against a tough Wing-T based scheme for Charlotte Catholic. Playing outside linebacker, he was really strong in playing off blocks and making tackles in both the inside and perimeter run game of the Cougars. He also was a very sure tackler and played with great emotion in helping lead a comeback for his team to force the game into overtime. He projects as a hybrid OLB/SS on the next level and had a great off-season visiting camps as well.
DB Jamari Rodgers-Freeman – Hickory Ridge – Jamari is not the biggest player, but he projects as a slot type of DB at the next level. The thing I love about him is not something you get typically at corner – his physicality. For 2 years in a row he has had highlight worthy big hits that help change the momentum of the game for his defense. In this game he blew up a throwback screen which gave the whole team a jolt of energy they needed at the time. He has good cover skills as well and great discipline in both man and zone coverage schemes.
LB Kyle Perry – Hickory Ridge – Kyle pairs well with the previously mentioned Luke Gilbertson and does the dirty work on the inside and middle of the defense. I like how Kyle takes on lead blocks with ferocity and allows his outside backers to spill and make plays. He is a good form tackler and makes the defensive calls and does a great job in getting everyone aligned and in position to execute the scheme on a consistent basis.
LB Jordan Wilkes – Hickory Ridge – Jordan stands at 6’1 and 220 pounds, and he does a lot for the Ragin Bulls defense. He can play inside or outside linebacker, and he has the ability to cover in space very well in man or zone coverage. He typically plays the strong side and is in on just about every play with his excellent ability to get to the football. He has multiple offers from HBCU and group of five schools, and will be a valuable player on the next level.
