Week One of 5A football brought some big-time wins and a few close games for our top 10. The opening night of high school football in the state featured one matchup between our top 10 teams, several close games, and multiple memorable performances.

1. Lehi Pioneers

The reigning 5A state champions look well on their way to another fantastic season after dominating Davis 48-0. Quarterback Jaxson Brousseau threw for 343 yards and accounted for four total touchdowns as Lehi locked in their first win.

2. Timpview Thunderbirds

The Thunderbirds knocked off the reigning 6A state champions with a dominant performance on both sides of the ball. Timpview controlled the trenches and secured the 31-10 win in an impressive fashion. The Thunderbirds proved they could play with anyone in the state and win it all if they can repeat their week one performance.

3. Springville Red Devils

Running back Tevita Valeti led the Red Devils to a lopsided victory after scoring the first three touchdowns and rushing for 256 yards. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='406866' first='Ryder' last='Burton'] and the Red Devils' defense also had a strong performance as Springville cruised to the win.

4. Park City Miners

It was a close game early, but the Miners took control of the contest with a big third quarter where they scored 18 points. Defensively they shut down the Wasatch offense in the second half to move to 1-0 on the season.

5. Orem Tigers

The Tigers and East Leopards competed in a physical game, but in the end, Orem's offense came up clutch late. The Tigers nearly let the game slip away, but thanks to a big late drive led by quarterback Lance Reynolds and big-time catches from receivers Cole Johnson and Asher Young, the Tigers secured the win.

6. Bountiful Redhawks

Bountiful showed out against Highland defensively, only surrounding three points on the night. The Redhawks scored three touchdowns in the second half to put the game well away, and this looks to be the first of many dominant wins.

7. Stansbury Stallions

The 72 points scored by Stansbury were the most any team put up in week one. Quarterback Ezra Harris, [player_tooltip player_id='406862' first='Mateaki' last='Helu'], one of the state's best athletes, and the rest of the Stallion's offense shined in week one while their defense held Pine View to 13 points.

8. East Leopards

The Leopards rallied late and almost got the upset win in Orem but fell short. However, East showed they can play with anyone in 5A, and [player_tooltip player_id='406878' first='Amini' last='Amone'] and Sione Vailahi are among the toughest running back duo's in the state.

9. Skyline Eagles

The Eagles soared in their big win over Juan Diego as they captured the 55-7 victory. Quarterback Josh Calvert had a big night with four touchdowns passes and [player_tooltip player_id='406874' first='Miles' last='Hall'] was the recipient of three of them. If the Eagles defense stands strong Skyline could be in for a big year.

10. Brighton Bengals

Brighton's week one loss was more good Deseret Hills than bad Bengals. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='406982' first='Jack' last='Johnson'] will learn and grow from game one, and his connection with receiver Nash Matheson will make this team tough to contain for anyone in 5A.
