This year is no different than any other, as I expect a few players to stand out among the rest. Now, here are 5 players I expect to have breakout seasons.
(One of) the guys that put players like Semaj Morgan on the map, Reqez Nance Reqez Nance 5’10” | 180 lbs | QB West Bloomfield | 2024 State MI is a rising star on a powerhouse program. As it stood last season, he was great, but had a few flaws that kept him from receiving too much college attention. Having had a good offseason, I expect Nance to improve significantly, making a true name for himself on a team full of star power.

I could say this for nearly the entire Muskegon offensive line, but Miguel Botello Miguel Botello 6’4″ | 300 lbs | OL Muskegon | 2024 State MI is going to turn some heads this season. With some of the most impressive 2024 lineman film, Botello is a powerful lineman with the intangibles and physicals of a Division 1 athlete. They have some big dogs at Muskegon, and as I expect Muskegon to be a state championship contender, I also expect players like Botello to receive many more college looks.

The L’anse Creuse RB missed much of last season due to injury, but absolutely showed out during Northwood’s prospect camp early this summer. He impressed so much, practically the entire camp knew his name by the end. Still technically unproven at the Varsity level, I expect Alan OuYang Alan OuYang 6’0″ | 205 lbs | RB L’anse Creuse | 2023 MI to not only prove himself, but earn All-League honors at the very least.

Having won LB MVP in April’s PRZMI Prospect Showcase, Cailin Scott Cailin Scott 5’9″ | 185 lbs | LB Belleville | 2025 MI has the potential to dominate the OAA White. Naturally instinctual and an incredibly hard worker, Scott i’m confident that Scott is going to be a dog this Fall, and legitimately put his name on the map.
I’ve said it time and time again, and a few other publications have said it, Ty Hudkins Ty Hudkins 6’0″ | 190 lbs | DB Forest Hills Central | 2024 State MI deserves more attention. The FHC DB had an incredible Winter and Spring, competing at as many camps as he could and showing out at all of them. At the PRZ Prospect Showcase, Hudkins showcased elite change of direction and general athleticism. Hudkins will be tested against many run-heavy teams this season, but a late-season test against GR Christian plus a potential playoff run will do wonders for putting Hudkins on the map.
