Continue ReadingMy favorite articles to write during the season last season was the prime-time players for the week. I try to put as many prospects as I can that lit up the Friday night skies. We will do the same thing this season as we highlight the players that had impressive games on Friday nights. I will also be churning out a what we learned article this weekend. However, now is the time to appreciate the work that was done this week.
Kyrone Sims Jr-Defensive Line-Watson Chapel-2023
Kyrone Sims Jr appeared on the prime-time players list several times last season and he is off to a strong start this season. The Watson Chapel edge rusher is one of the most versatile players for the Wildcats. He can play the edge rusher or linebacker position with equal effectiveness. On Thursday night, Sims Jr. accounted for three sacks, a tackle for loss, and one blocked punt against Texarkana. Look out for Sims Jr. this season, he is off to an extremely strong start this season.
Jalen Dupree Jalen Dupree 6'1" | 210 lbs | RB Malvern | 2024 State AR -Running Back-Malvern-2024
In the shutout victory over Riverview, Jalen Dupree Jalen Dupree 6'1" | 210 lbs | RB Malvern | 2024 State AR had an extremely impressive performance. Dupree has the speed to cause plenty of headaches for opposing defenses and is dangerous in the open field. Dupree had 12 carries for 121 yards and four touchdowns. However, he was not done there, Dupree also hauled in two receptions for 60 yards. Dupree is setting the stage for a big season with the Malvern Leopards.
Randall Davis-Offensive Line-Little Rock Parkview-2024
No players are more ready to hit opposing players than the players on the offensive and defensive lines. Tank Davis came out ready to play this season. The Little Rock Parkview offensive lineman account for 10 pancake blocks and five knockdowns against Springdale Har-Ber on Thursday night. The Parkview Patriots has plenty of talent on both sides of the ball and this has the potential to be an impressive season for Davis and the Patriots. Keep an eye out for Davis, he is clicking on all cylinders to start the season.
Dax Goff Dax Goff 6'1" | 215 lbs | LB Booneville | 2024 State AR -Linebacker-Booneville-2024
Booneville Bearcat Dax Goff Dax Goff 6'1" | 215 lbs | LB Booneville | 2024 State AR is one of the most versatile players that the Bearcats have. We will look at both sides of the ball for Goff, because he stuffed the stat sheet on both sides of the ball. Against Pine Bluff Dollarway on Friday night, Goff had a tremendous start to the season. On the offensive side of the ball, Goff rushed for 109 yards and punched the ball in the end zone one time. Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the ball, the Booneville linebacker racked up 10 tackles on the night. Keep an eye out for Goff, he has the potential to play on Saturdays in the future.
Donovan Whitten Donovan Whitten 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB Arkadelphia | 2023 State AR -Quarterback-Arkadelphia-2023
We have discussed the Arkadelphia quarterback on numerous occasions over the past few months and he did not disappoint to kick off the 2022 season. In his 2022 debut, Whitten was 15/33 for 303 yards, three passing touchdowns, eight carries for 74 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Whitten looked to be in mid-season form with his performance on Friday night in the victory over Camden Fairview. Arkadelphia is talented on both sides of the ball, and this has the makings of a team that could play deep into November.
LJ Robins LJ Robins 5'11" | 165 lbs | WR Greenwood | 2024 State AR -Wide Receiver-Greenwood-2024
The Greenwood Bulldogs opened the season against Stillwater. Wide receiver LJ Robins LJ Robins 5'11" | 165 lbs | WR Greenwood | 2024 State AR got off to a hot start for the Bulldogs on Friday night. Robins hauled in 11 receptions for 109 yards and two touchdowns. However, he wasn’t done, Robins had two kickoff returns for 43 yards and one punt return for 31 yards. Robins is off to a great start, and I look for the Greenwood offense to hit full stride over the next few weeks.
Carter McElhany Carter McElhany 5'7" | 155 lbs | WR Greenbrier | 2023 State AR -Wide Receiver-Greenbrier-2023
Carter McElhany Carter McElhany 5'7" | 155 lbs | WR Greenbrier | 2023 State AR had a fantastic 2021 football season, and he has not missed a beat heading into the 2022 season. On Friday night, the Greenbrier wide receiver used his great speed to escape the Farmington defense for three touchdowns. Meanwhile, McElhany displayed his big player ability in the return game as well. He returned a kick for a 90-yard touchdown against the Cardinals. Look for a big season from the Greenbrier wide receiver this season.
Folks can look for more stars from Friday night in what we learned article I have coming out later in the weekend. In the meantime, enjoy the kickoff to the college football season today and be on the lookout for more articles from the rest of the Prep Redzone Arkansas staff.
