He’s fundamentally sound, shows great footwork, and tracks the ball well in the air, playing the ball like a receiver. Jones has an impressive vertical, and when he’s able to go up and get the ball, the 6-foot-3 185-pounder does a great job of making a play on a consistent basis. As a sophomore last year, Jones was able to be one of the more reliable defenders on one of the top 6A teams in the state. He’s also excellent against the run, showing he’s a sure tackler and someone who can get down hill and make a play behind the line of scrimmage. The Warner Robins native made 50 tackles last year, but his impact as a playmaking defensive back is why he’s one of the top-ranked safety prospects across the country in the 2024 class.

[player_tooltip player_id=’335644’ first=’JD’ last=’Casteen’] – Creekview

Another 6A defender with a nose for the football, the Creekview (GA) standout is one of the more under the radar defenders in the area and has the stats from last year to back it up. You won’t find him on social media, but you can see the playmaking linebacker make plays at Creekview ton Friday nights this fall. As a sophomore last fall, Casteen played like a veteran, making 51 total tackles and intercepting four passes. He’s smart, instinctive, and just has a knack for finding the football and making plays. He’ll be one of the top defenders in the region once again this season and bound for a gigantic junior year. If the ball is anywhere near him, expect Casteen to make a play on it just like he did last year.

[player_tooltip player_id=’329347’ first=’Brice’ last=’Pollock’] - Shiloh
One of the top under cover corners in 6A, Pollack is excellent in coverage with soft hands. The Pittsburgh commitment covers a lot of ground, closes quickly on receivers, and does a nice job of deflecting passes away. One of the top returning INT leaders in 6A, Pollack picked off 4 passes and broke up another 12. It’s hard for anyone to catch passes against Pollack for a number of reasons. He runs well, has plenty of length on his lean frame at 6-foot-1 185-pounds, and shows natural instincts. He plays hard, plays fast, and knows how to make a play when the ball is in the air. He consistently flashes on film and showed why he’s a D1-caliber talent. Look for him to have another impactful season against 6A competition this upcoming season.

Devon Rainey - Jonesboro

An excellent cornerback with receiver-like ball skills Rainey is one of the top returning cornerbacks south of Atlanta. He has good size and length at 6-foot-3 180-pounds and finds the football as well as anyone in the area. He shows good technique and does a nice job of turning and locating the football. He shows great hands and knows how to take off down the field for a big gain. Rainey picked off 4 passes as a junior last year and turned them into 178 return yards, taking two of them back for touchdowns. He reads the quarterback well, reacts quickly and has great instincts in coverage. If there’s a bad pass heading his way, Rainey is going to make the quarterback pay. He also plays receiver for Jonesboro, catching 29 passes for 376 yards and three touchdowns. He’s a true athlete and an excellent defensive back to know about for the upcoming season. Rainey is currently committed to Miami (OH)

Wherever you look in the peach state, you’ll find ball-hawking defensive backs. At both cornerback and safety, the state consistently produces high caliber defensive backs with impressive ball skills.
