The Hough Huskies are one of the best programs in Charlotte, period. Over the past couple of years, they have beaten rival Chambers High School in the regular season, only to get knocked off by them in the state playoffs - with last year’s loss at home in the 4A West Region final being a tough one to swallow. To their credit, they don’t do anything but reload and find themselves deep in the playoffs year in and year out, and that is a testament to the leadership of Head Coach Matt Jenkins. Jenkins has been the leader of the Huskies the past few years, and he has done nothing but win, and win big consistently. Let’s take a look at this year’s version of the Huskies, who are absolutely loaded with talent.

Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id=’44970’ first=’Tad’ last=’Hudson’], a North Carolina commit, is back to lead the offense in his senior year. He has a strong arm, great accuracy, and a lot of great players to share the ball with. Most notably in that group is ATH JT Smith Jr. who has offers from multiple schools - some have offered him as a running back, and some have offered him on the defensive side of the ball. It will be interesting to see where JT lines up as he has some help in the backfield with him in [player_tooltip player_id=’144924’ first=’Akil’ last=’Williams’], who has been offered by Boston College, and is a very good running back in his own right. I expect JT will be moved all over the field as an ultimate chess piece, making the Huskies unpredictable in their attack.

On the outside at wide receiver, the Huskies have two dynamic playmakers - first in Markell Quick, who has been receiving offers in an exponential fashion. In last year’s West Regional final, I felt like he would have been the MVP if Hough won - he made some incredible catches in tight man coverage and created seperation for big plays in that game to keep the chains moving. He has a great partner in Sequan Osborne who has committed to Howard. He is a young man I’ve covered since his JV days, and he’s a great playmaker who can work on the outside or out of the slot. He can be electric with the ball in his hands. The offensive line though is the engine of the team, and 6’8 [player_tooltip player_id=’314163’ first=’Eagan’ last=’Boyer’] has picked up a ton of attention, recently picking up offers from Charlotte and Virginia Tech. Having seen him up close at a camp, his ceiling is enormous as he continues to grow into his body. Davidson commit [player_tooltip player_id=’371449’ first=’Jack’ last=’Berlin’] and 6’3 OL Tanner Ward will help lead the charge for the Hough offensive attack upfront as well.

Defensively, expect the Huskies to be well coached led by Defensive Coordinator Chachi Sullivan. He has some excellent talent coming back as well, led on the defensive line by [player_tooltip player_id=’371448’ first=’Branden’ last=’Palmer’], who has been getting some Power 5 offers from schools such as Kentucky, Maryland and West Virginia among other schools. He’s an explosive edge rusher who has the frame colleges love to build on. The Huskies are especially strong at linebacker, with 2024 prospect Anthony Walker, Nick Garrido, and [player_tooltip player_id=’45004’ first=’Garvey’ last=’Sterling’] giving Hough one of the top linebacker units in the state. As usual, the Huskies have some excellent Defensive Back talent, and [player_tooltip player_id=’145098’ first=’Myllonne’ last=’Patton’] has been picking up some offers from Morehouse and Ferrum Colleges respectively. Xavier Mcintyre is also a strong prospect in the back end for the Huskies. [player_tooltip player_id=’117961’ first=’Nolan’ last=’Hauser’] is one of the best kickers in the nation, and has picked up an offer from North Carolina - along with being ranked as the #1 kicker in the 2024 class by respected publications!

Looking at the Huskies schedule this year, their first game at Memorial Stadium in Downtown Charlotte against traditional South Carolina powerhouse Dutch Fork will be must see TV. They also matchup with their rival Chambers which is always a great game. You can always count on a couple of playoff games out of these guys, so just plan on catching one of those as well. Overall, I expect another great season up in Corneilus for the Huskies and this could be the year they breakthrough and get the championship this program has been wanting for the past few years.
