Continue ReadingThe 2022 Jaguars will have the tall task of attempting to repeat as 6A State Champion; if accomplished, it will be the first time since the 2009-2010 South Panola Tigers. The Jaguars had a magical season in 2021, finishing the year with a record of 13-1, with the one blemish coming to Starkville Highschool in late September. Madison Central has a good core group of players returning in 2022 and the talent to win it all again in 2022. If the Jaguars are going to repeat, these five players will play a significant role in making that happen.
Vic Sutton Vic Sutton 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Madison Central | 2023 State MS | 6’3″ QB | Senior
Sutton is 6’3″ tall and 200 lbs; In 2021, Sutton finished the 2021 season with 17 passing touchdowns and three interceptions for 1,653 yards through the air. He is an athlete who can beat you with his arm in the passing game and feet in the running game. Sutton had sixty-five carries for 334 yards and five touchdowns on the ground in 2021. Sutton is a player that leads by example and pushes his team to be their best at all times. In 2022, Sutton will be back to quarterback the Jaguars and will look to pick up where he left off in the 2021 season.
DeAndre Pullen | 5’8″ RB | Senior
Pullen is 5’8″ tall and 160 lbs; In 2021, Pullen’s mission was to make his name a household name in the state of Mississippi. By all accounts, that mission was accomplished, capping off his 2021 campaign with 147 carries for 1,130 yards and 15 rushing touchdowns. Pullen played a significant role in helping the Jaguars win it all in 2021. He is a quick back who runs hard and can make people miss in the open field. The Jaguars will lean heavily on him in 2022 to help them repeat as State Champions.
Isaiah Spencer Isaiah Spencer 6'1" | 180 lbs | WR Madison Central | 2023 State MS | 6’1″ WR | Senior
Spencer is 6’1″ tall and 179 lbs; In 2021, Spencer played a significant role in the Jaguars, winning only their second state championship in school history last fall. The 2021 campaign for the Southern Miss commit was special, where he was responsible for 47 receptions for 1,018 yards and 12 receiving touchdowns. Spencer’s electric speed and hands of glue will help him continue to be a significant contributor to the Madison Central offense in 2022.
Edward White | 5’9″ DL | Senior
White is 5’9″ tall and 220 lbs; In 2021, White was the anchor to one of the best defensive lines in the state of Mississippi. While playing in a three-technique for most of the 2021 season he was able to finish the year with 77 total tackles and 4 sacks. White is strong and explosive from the nose tackle position. He dominates the opposing offensive line and makes it difficult to move the football. The defensive line for the Jaguars in 2022 will be a solid group led by White.
Braxton Barney Braxton Barney 6'5" | 220 lbs | DL Madison Central | 2023 State MS | 6’5″ DE | Senior
Barney is 6’5″ tall and 210 lb; in 2021, Barney finished the 2021 championship season with 83 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks. Barney is both quick and powerful when he is coming off of the edge, especially when he is using his bull rush technique. He wreaks havoc on the opposing offensive line by being aggressive and having the ability to find the ball carrier. The 2022 defensive line for Jaguars will be an exciting group to watch with both Barney and White leading the way.
