While this class is largely unmined due to their youth, we here at PrepRedzone tend to thrive when finding underrated talent, even if it is before others come across it. This always tends to be the case in the state of Georgia, as the pool of talent is so deep, that even some of the top 25 players in a specific position class can fly under the radar. Because of this, we have taken some time to recognize some of the top players at the kicker position in Georgia’s 2025 class, who also tend to be on the rise, with a bright future ahead of them.
Samar Layous- Centennial
In an 8 game span, Layous not only proved to be an efficient kicker for his team, but he also showed that being able to do so was not limited to the experience, and age of a player. As a true freshman, Layous hit 13 different extra points, and also proved to handle the pressure, and distance that came with a field goal kick. In doing so, Layous also knocked down a field goal for his team, proving to his coaches, and his team that he can be accurate enough, and calm enough to handle tough tasks. This will not only translate as he continues to develop as a player, but it will give him in game experience that will be necessary for his development. Next season, we feel Layous is on the rise due to these reasons, and his growing physical abilities and upside.
Brayden Black- Veterans
During the 2021 season, Black not only played in only 5 games, but was able to accomplish a contribution of 13 points in that short amount of time. Each of these came with precision, as he was able to get good air on each ball, and get the ball up in proper time to hit 13 different extra points. With this, because of the amount of games he played in, he was able to finish the year with an average of 2.6 points a game. Expect him to continue to excel next season, and to be on the upward trajectory of consistency that we have already seen, causing him to continue to be on the rise.
Charlie Turner- Calvary Christian
Even though Turner’s point total of 8 points may not seem impressive, we here at PrepRedzone still tend to find it to be a big deal, especially as he was able to contribute as a specialist for his team last year. In a 6 game span, he not only averaged a little over 1 point a game, but he was able to maintain accuracy and efficiency on each of his extra point attempts, proving that he can handle small tasks for his team. Not only did he prove to have the leg strength, but he also proved to have the length on each of his kicks that you would like to see out of a developing kicker. While he has plenty of growth ahead of him in his overall timing and consistency in his mechanics, we still feel he is up and coming, especially if given the time to grow and develop.
Talyn Curtis- Gilmer
While it may not seem like much, Curtis, who hit 8 extra points, for an obvious total of 8 points last year, within a 6 game span, managed to get his name out there for his coaches, and was able to prove that he could handle being in the spotlight in big games. While they were only extra points, the pressure of being able to hit these kicks at such a young age, and being able to play with good timing, and arc are important for continued development at the kicker position. While his leg with most definitely continue to grow in strength, accuracy, and power, we have no doubt that he will continue to grow mentally as a specialist. Not only is this valuable due to the responsibility and pressure of his position, but it directly translates to any success or productivity that he may or may not have.
