Continue ReadingThe Beast of the Southeast aka Southern Elite Combine had a lot of great talent come out yesterday. They definitely always have some of the best gems at OL there. Guys that have a lot of talent and size with not a lot of exposure. Coming to this camp gives them a chance to compete against some of the best talent around the state at the same time allows them to learn what they need to improve on.
Will Echoles Will Echoles 6'4" | 305 lbs | OL Houston | 2024 State MS , 6-4 300, Houston, 2024
Will was turning heads at camp all day today. He is very polished and will soon be on a lot of schools’ radar. Will does a great job of being patient in his blocking. He doesn’t shoot his hands too early allowing defenders to hit him with a swim move or nice rip. He does a good job of getting a good backdrop and making sure he is in a nice stance to handle any move a defensive lineman hits him with. He keeps very good posture on the line and has a long wingspan. His natural ability helps him out, but Will has great mechanics to go with that. I think he is a Power 5 guy that will soon have offers coming to his phone. He has some great size and knows how to compete with his size. He knows how to use his size to his advantage. He only lost one 1 on 1 battle today and that was due to the speed rush by a smaller guy. I think he needs to do a good job of staying honest and not cheating to the outside when he is against a smaller faster guy. I noticed that he jumped to far for the speed rush on one play, and the defender set him up to go right back inside. Echoles has a lot of potential and he will play D1 ball at the next level.
Landon Smith, 6-4 270, Brookhaven, 2023
His family comes from old-school farming backgrounds. He isn’t shy about working hard. Landon was amazing today. He didn’t lose a single rep in his 1-on-1s today. He is a guy that has a mean grip when he locks on. There is no easily getting around him. He plays guard for Brookhaven, but it seems like he could learn to play the tackle position. He is very long and isn’t bad on his feet. He moves side to side very well and has a nice drop step from the snap. He is patient with his hands. He is not a guy who is going to get beat by a swim move or hard rip. He has the strength to remain solid in front of most defenders he faces. Landon also did very well in his drills today. He has the ability to move very well to be his size. I think that he can work on footwork a little more. Sometimes he finds himself out of position and then relies on his strength to save him. A good lineman will always find a way to get to the QB when he loses his feet. He is a very coachable kid so I’m sure he will work on that.
Ryan Rainer, 6-5 270, St Joe Catholic School, 2025
Ryan has a lot of fight about himself and he protects the pocket very well. This kid is only 15 and he still has a lot of room to grow. There is no telling how big he can be when he starts to really hit the weight room. I love what I saw out of him today. He was very smooth in his 1 on 1 reps today. He has a nice posture and he knows how to be easy with those hands. He may be a guy that can play guard or tackle. It is easy to see he is a strong kid that can be easily taught to be a force in the run game. Rainer does not duck any smoke either. He steps up and he wants every challenge. I think he is another guy who can work on his feetwork. He was stumbling a bit at times and in a game against a seasoned defensive lineman that can really hurt you. I think with some good work over the years this kid can be a Power 5 prospect.
Taccofah Lewis Taccofah Lewis 6'4" | 270 lbs | OL Pearl | 2024 State MS , 6-4 270, Pearl, 2024
Taco has a nickname that I love. He also has a very nice game on the offensive line. This kid was one of the more polished players out there yesterday. He is a blocking machine. He has a very nice posture when he does his drop step. He has a very big frame and can easily grow to be a nice solid 300-pound guy in nice shape. He looks very good to be his size. He moved very well and he did a great job in drills. He isn’t stiff at all and has some nice footwork. Taco was impressing everybody that laid eyes on him yesterday. He has a nice punch once the defender gets in his comfort. He does a great job of pressing his arms staying behind his lower body to find his strength. Those are great mechanics for an offensive lineman to have at a young age. Sometimes he gets back on his heels too heavy. Needs to learn to be more balanced throughout his whole body.
Joe Koury Joe Koury 6'1" | 270 lbs | OL Madison Central | 2024 State MS , 6-0 280, Madison Central, 2024
Joe Koury Joe Koury 6'1" | 270 lbs | OL Madison Central | 2024 State MS is a very good center who was a 6A state champion last season with the Madison Central Jaguars. He comes from a great coaching staff and you can tell he has been coached up. Joe reminds me of Jeff Saturday. He even looks like him a little bit. The kid has a wide stocky frame and unloads when he gets his hands on defenders. You don’t want to be short stepping when you step around his lane. Joe can move and he does a great job of competing. He is a kid that loves action and has the grit that you need your center to have. With the competition he will face in his division he has a chance to get some nice offers if he he continues to play well.
Kobe Williams Kobe Williams 6'6" | 300 lbs | OL Amory | 2024 State MS , 6-4 300, Amory, 2024
Kobe has a great chance to be a Power 5 guy. He has a lot of size and is only going to the 11th grade. He is very strong, but needs some work on his mechanics. I think he needs to work on a few things that will help him become lighter on his feet. He has a lot of upside and is very coachable. No quit about this kid and I’m very confident that he will grow into a big time offensive lineman. He has the grit and will to do so. He looks to be a guy who will play guard and get down and dirty with those defensive tackles.
Wes Wiggins, 6-2 235, Smithville, 2026
Wes is another young guy who looks to have a promising next four years. He has a lot of size and will only get bigger. Wes was one of the youngest guys out there, but he was competing with the older guys. He didn’t shy away from any challenges. Wes is very strong, but he needs to learn to keep his feet moving. He will only get better as he gets more training.
