Here, we take a look at some RBs in the Metro-Atlanta area and see which ones have what it takes to put up “Player of the Year” numbers.
Keyjuan Brown Keyjuan Brown 5'10" | 200 lbs | RB South Atlanta | 2023 State GA – 2023 – South Atlanta
After rushing for 1500 yards as a sophomore, it was safe to say that Brown broke onto the scene. But somehow, he cleared those numbers by rushing for a remarkable 2757 yards last season with 38 TDs. He was just 90 yards short of surpassing 3000 total yards on the season, which is an absolutely extraordinary feat. The 5’9 210 pound Purdue commit is a smooth runner with rare make-miss ability. He can make a few quick cuts and instantly create separation between him and the defender. He also shows some nice physicality as well, and is well-balanced at the point of contact. Once he gets into space, his elite acceleration does the rest. Producing at the clip he did last year would be a challenge, but he has already proven that he is capable of doing so. Even if he produced half of those numbers, he would still be one of the most productive backs in the state once again.
Justice Haynes Justice Haynes 5'10" | 205 lbs | RB Buford | 2023 State GA – 2023 – Buford
Haynes has had an absolutely remarkable high school career up to this point. For the last 3 seasons, Haynes has rushed for at least 1700 yards each of those seasons and surpassed 2300 yards in his junior year, where he also scored 29 times. Chances are, he will surpass Herschel Walker on the GAHSFB career rushing yard leaderboard this upcoming year. Spending his senior season at Buford, Haynes, an Alabama commit, has the chance to end his high school career with a state championship. On film, Haynes is a fluid runner that has generational burst. He explodes through the line with ease, can make quick cuts to dice his way through defenders, and has NFL-level acceleration. There is not a part of his game that could be considered a weakness, and Haynes has the chance to have his best season yet at the high school level at Buford, where he will play in a run-heavy offensive scheme.
Jamarion Wilcox Jamarion Wilcox 5'10" | 195 lbs | RB South Paulding | 2023 State GA – 2023 – South Paulding
Wilcox had a breakout junior season where he rushed for over 1500 yards on 7.6 YPC and found the endzone 23 times. That is nearly 1000 yards and 20 TDs more than his sophomore season totals. Wilcox was also productive in the receiving game, where he added 235 more yards. Wilcox is trending upwards and has the chance to put together an even more impressive 2022 season to close out his high school career. On film, Wilcox is an elusive back that does an outstanding job of fighting through tackles and staying upright. His ability to break tackles and move the pile forward makes him a very intriguing RB prospect. He is coming off a big season, but there is reason to believe that his senior season will be his biggest.
