Continue ReadingWe’re back to taking a look at the updated 2024 class rankings and the top 10 players at each position. Today, we take a look at the top 10 defensive linemen in the class.
Overall, it’s a deep class in the state, our top 10 defensive linemen are all ranked inside the top 75 players in the state. In fact, 13 of the state’s top defensive linemen are ranked inside the top 75 while 17 are ranked in the top 100.
The defensive line rankings are also heavily populated with Philadelphia players, seven of the state’s top 10 defensive linemen call the city of Brotherly Love home.
Let’s take a look at each of the ten players inside our top-10.
No.1 Jahsear Whittington Jahsear Whittington 6'1" | 280 lbs | DL Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA – Imhotep Charter
Player Snapshot: A top-notch prospect here out of Imhotep Charter. Whittington is always easy to find in his film, at 6-foot-2, he projects to be a defensive tackle at the next level. He shows a good first step and is quick to the point of attack, hand fighting skills are of high quality as well. He has a knack for continuously getting into the backfield and being a threat to cause havoc. He’s a true game wrecker for Imhotep Charter on the defensive line. Still has a lot of untapped potential as well, very excited to see what type of growth he has this upcoming season.
Recruitment: Whittington put an early end to his recruitment, committing to Pittsburgh in April.
No.2 Deshon Dodson Deshon Dodson 6'4" | 260 lbs | DL Neumann-Goretti | 2024 State PA (Neumann & Goretti)
Player Snapshot: To begin, I love the potential with Dodson, he has elite size already and has just some great quickness. The potential for him is through the roof in my opinion. Despite being 6-foot-5 and 275-pounds, Dodson shows great athleticism and is quite agile for his size as well. He has a quick first step and plays with a good bend in the pass rush and sets the edge against the run very well as well. I believe Dodson could be a star at the next level if he continues to develop.
Recruitment: Dodson is building quite the offer list with Boston College, Miami, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Penn State, Rutgers, Syracuse, Texas A&M, West Virginia, and Wisconsin all offering the Philadelphia native.
No.3 Cameron Chmura Cameron Chmura 6'3" | 290 lbs | DL North Allegheny | 2024 State PA (North Allegheny)
Player Snapshot: Chmura is an intriguing prospect, he’s not the biggest or fastest prospect but on the field he’s productive and a menace to opposing offenses. He’s got a quick first step and gets to the point of attack near immediately over half the time. When he breaks into the backfield, he shows some solid quickness and agility which you wouldn’t necessarily expect out of his 5.29 forty time. Either way, he plays the pass rush with a quality bend that allows him to get leverage on opposing offensive linemen and against the run does a terrific job of filling in gaps and bringing ball carriers down.
Recruitment: Kent State and UMass have extended early offers to Chmura.
No.4 Connor Young Connor Young 6'3" | 255 lbs | DL Mt. Lebanon | 2024 State PA (Mt. Lebanon)
Player Snapshot: An intriguing prospect Young has quality size along with a good first step, he shows great upper body strength allowing him to bully opposing offensive linemen at the point of attack but also has a great burst when getting past the offensive line. He hits a second gear as well when chasing down a ball carrier and his overall athleticism is really impressive. An exciting prospect that I’m looking forward to watching develop, perhaps some position ambiguity since he’s already 6-foot-3 and 245-pounds but the potential is there.
Recruitment: Young is still looking for his first official scholarship offer.
No.5 David Johnson David Johnson 6'0" | 265 lbs | DL Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA (Imhotep Charter)
Player Snapshot: Our second Imhotep Charter defensive lineman, Johnson a 6-foot-0, 260-pound defensive tackle is quick to the point of attack and is strong at hand fighting and getting leverage on opposing offensive linemen, He excels against the run but shows quality promise in the pass rush as well. It will be interesting to see how he continues to develop as he grows.
Recruitment: Johnson currently has no offers in his recruitment.
No.6 Noah Rosahac Noah Rosahac 6'5" | 270 lbs | OL Jim Thorpe | 2024 State PA (Jim Thorpe)
Player Snapshot: Rosahac is one of the bigger defensive linemen in our top 10 but is sneaky athletic for his size. The combination of a good first step and a great motor makes him a highly productive player for Jim Thorpe. High-quality player here who is going to be a sneaky good pickup for whoever lands him at the next level. High floor player with a strong ceiling as well.
Recruitment: Rosahac has one scholarship offer in his recruitment from the in-state FCS program, Lafayette.
No.7 Jayzen Flint Jayzen Flint 6'4" | 230 lbs | DL West Catholic | 2024 State PA (West Catholic)
Player Snapshot: Nice, a lengthy defender with quality athleticism, Flint is a prospect worth closely monitoring in the future. The foundation for him to rise up the rankings if he continues his development is there, he has quite a bit of what you look for in a productive defensive end at the next level. Overall, he’s a good athlete with enough speed and agility to get the job done.
Recruitment: Flint is still looking for his first scholarship offer.
No.8 Samier Bromfield Samier Bromfield OL Neumann & Goretti | 2024 State PA (Neumann & Goretti)
Player Snapshot: Bromfield is a prospect that I’ll be watching closely this upcoming season, not a ton of updated highlights on his HUDL makes it hard to get a grasp on where he’s at in his development. Overall, he’s got good size and the athleticism is there for him to be a dynamic player on the defensive line. Could be a player that rises quite a bit if we get a chance to see him up close.
Recruitment: Bromfield has received one scholarship offer so far from the Maryland Terrapins.
No.9 Kieran Campbell Kieran Campbell 6'3" | 230 lbs | DL La Salle College | 2024 State PA (La Salle)
Player Snapshot: Overall, Campbell is a good athlete also being a high-quality lacrosse player as well. On the gridiron, he shows high-quality potential as well. He gets off the line quickly and shows good hand-fighting skills. Not the fastest defensive end in the world but has enough speed and agility to make plays in the backfield at a consistent rate. Has a couple of nice moves in his arsenal for the pass rush as well and is a high-motor player. There’s a lot to like with Campbell.
Recruitment: Campbell hasn’t received any offers in his recruitment so far.
No.10 Ennis Udo Ennis Udo 6'2" | 205 lbs | TE Malvern Prep | 2024 State PA (Malvern Prep)
Player Snapshot: I do wonder if Udo may be better suited as a linebacker down the road but most of that will come down to his size. Either way, on the field, you’re looking at a good athlete with nice straight line speed and plays with a good bend. For him to be more successful on the defensive line, getting bigger will be a must, if not, he projects well to being a linebacker at the next level as well. He shows good instincts and puts himself in positions to make plays regularly. Lots of potential with Udo.
Recruitment: Udo has yet to receive any offers in his recruitment.
