Here are a few of the best returning versatile players on offense for the upcoming season…
Javious Bond – Jones County
A true offensive weapon for a talented Jones County ream, the Middle Georgia back made a lot of plays as a junior last fall for the Greyhounds, and many of his biggest plays came as a receiver out of the backfield. He was an excellent runner who rushed for over 900 yards and 14 touchdowns out of the backfield, but he proved to be a major weapon in the passing game as well. Bond showed reliable, consistent hands all season as a receiver, catching 49 passes last year for 555 yards and six touchdowns. He’s quick and explosive with the ball, but his consistent hands made him a threat to score on any particular play. He can make a tough catch in traffic and can make a “wow” catch as well. He’s a back with a receiver’s skillset, making him tough to handle for any defense in the area. Look for Bond to continue catching the ball with ease as a senior in 2022.
Lang Windham – Rabun County
If there’s one “under the radar” back to know about in the North Georgia mountains, it’s Windham. He may have zero offers right now, but that’s strictly due to his size. At only 5-foot-9 150-pounds, Windham is a smaller back but has proved to be one of the more versatile backs in the state due to his playmaking ability as a receiver. The rising senior is coming off an excellent junior season where he rushed for over 800 yards 13 touchdowns. He was a reliable weapon in the passing game as well, catching 44 passes for 664 yards and another 9 touchdowns. His reliable hands made him a go-to option on screens and underneath passes, and when he’s given some space to run, he’s always a threat to take it to the house. He gets up-field in a quickly and he’s a dangerous weapon in the open field due to his agility and elusiveness. He clearly has some of the best hands for any back across Georgia, making him an easy candidate as one of the most versatile offensive players in Georgia.
Alan M Jones Jr. – Monroe Area
A tough, physical back with balance, Jones Jr. has no problem catching the ball out of the backfield. One of the most productive backs in the area, Jones Jr was tough to handle all season, rushing for over 1,500 yards last year and 13 touchdowns. He runs hard, breaks a lot of tackles, but moves well for his size at 5-foot-11 180-pounds. He ran wild on defenses last year, but he also showed his versatility and ability to catch passes out of the backfield. He caught 14 passes last year for 300 yards and two touchdowns, proving he can make a big impact both as a runner and receiver. As well as he played last year, expect him to make even more plays this fall.
One of the top 4A backs in metro-Atlanta, Graham is a versatile back who has no trouble catching passes out of the backfield. Ranked as the No. 77 prospect in the state in the 2024 class, Graham is a smaller, shiftier back who is really tough to tackle for his age. He made a big impact last season as a sophomore, making plays at multiple positions. The 5-foot-10 170-pounder showed he was one of the more productive backs in 4A, rushing for 1,146 yards on 145 carries for an impressive 7.9 yards per carry while scoring 12 touchdowns. He’s also been a major weapon in the passing game, catching only 13 passes but making them count for 473 yards and five touchdowns. When he catches a pass this year, he’s averaging over 36 yards each time. He’s an explosive playmaker who has totaled 1,325 total yards so far this season. He’s a 2024 back to keep an eye on over the next two and a half seasons and one of the most versatile backs across Georgia in the 2024 class.
