QB1 The Selection was a highly competitive, invite only competition involving the top QB prospects from the Class of 2023-2029. Here’s the QBs who came home with the hardware in each group.
Connor Wolf Connor Wolf 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2024 State MI – Grand Rapids Catholic Central 2024
The GRCC signal caller has been having a beyond impressive off season!!! Catching attention for colleges scouts and putting on clinics at camps and showcases. I’m not gonna lie, coming into the event I had Wolf as the favorite to take home the “OVERALL MVP” and that’s exactly what he did. Connor just has it. It’s that simple. Accuracy, timing, zip, pose, footwork and most important consistency!! A lot of gun slingers can come out and throw a good ball, but Wolf does it non- stop, day in and day out! Looks like GRCC’s has a pretty good shot to making it back to Ford Field with Wolf under center.
Grant Nelson- Ann Arbor Pioneer 2023
Grant was fore sure the sleeper of the competition but definitely made the staff remember his name!!! Nelson showed up with hunger in his eyes to prove to the state what the players at Pioneer already know… Grant Nelson is the real deal. Nelson’s impressive accuracy and reads separated him from the competition earning him the TOP 2023 award. What impressed me the most about Nelson was how coachable he was… he quickly make corrections throughout the drills that coaches talked to him about and when the scoring was all done… Nelson brought home the hardware! Watch out for this young man as he enters his senior campaign this fall.
Alek Wickstrom Alek Wickstrom 5'11" | 155 lbs | QB West Catholic | 2024 State MI – Grand Rapids Christian 2024
I have been watching his dude sling the rock since the winter 7v7 league at Legacy and let me start by saying his placement is dirty!!! The accuracy and touch Wickstrom has on the football is a thing of beauty, so showing up to a competition that is point based a lot on accuracy… doesn’t shock me that Alek went home with the hardware for the 2024s. Alek was a sponge on both the field and in the classroom during the event. Just a kid you can tell loves the game and is hungry to get better every day. Wickstrom caught a lot of attention this past week including myself, definitely climbing up my 2024 QB prospect board.
Joe Thole- Schoolcraft 2026
This incoming freshman has the IQ of a varsity Quarterback and can spin the rock like one too! Joe was definitely a QB I wanted to see compete around his peers, because I heard he was the real deal and he proved he is at The Selection. Joe’s high level of understanding coverages and windows, and alignments separated him from the rest in the competition. Very smart young man who you can tell in his eyes… love the position and loves the game. I was very impressed with his deep ball accuracy as well. I’m excited to watch Thole’s High School career and Schoolcraft just got a DAWG at QB!
Hudson Smith- 2027
This 2027 lefty has every High School OC trying to get him interested in their program. Hudson Smith is the REAL DEAL!!! You heard it here first. It’s not just the power or the accuracy or the IQ… its his character!! When your winning or losing Smith holds himself to the same standard of class. He is a QB you want in your locker room, as well as your community. Class and character aside… the dude can thread the needle. His accuracy and zip is beyond his years and it gets even more polish every time I see him throw. I have Hudson at the top of my 27 board and I’m sure others will soon.
