Continue ReadingThe final installment of the EXOS Select 50 Showcase for 2022, allowed several prospects to raise their recruiting profiles. Each camper had the chance to work with the Select 50 coaching staff made up of former NFL veterans. We are only a month away from the start of high school football practice, so this camp also gave the players a chance to fine tune their games. Today we look at the MVPs selected by the coaching staff at each position.
Zachaun Williams Zachaun Williams 6'1" | 175 lbs | DB Tyler | 2024 State TX
Class: 2024
MVP: Defensive Back
Position: Cornerback
Size: 6’1 175
High School: Tyler High (Tyler, TX)
Twitter: @ZachaunW
Offers/College Interest: Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Texas Tech, Northern Arizona
Williams has the stout, long and athletic frame that college coaches covet. He is physical at the point of attack and uses his length well to reroute opponents at the line of scrimmage. Zachaun gets into his backpedal smoothly, has the hip flexibility to change directions quickly and his athleticism enables him to matchup with any opponent that lines up across from him. Using his extended arm length to his advantage, allows him to shut down passing windows and he causes havoc on the 50/50 jump ball. After reviewing his sophomore season, his natural instincts as a playmaker from the cornerback position leap off of the tape. He has a nose for the football, plays the passing lanes aggressively and his eye discipline in off or zone coverage lead to multiple interceptions. Williams is the #18th ranked defensive back and the #75 overall player in the state in the Prep Redzone Texas rankings for the class of 2024. Look for Williams to continue to anchor down the Tyler Lion defense at cornerback, as he will in all likelihood develop into a national recruit.

Aidan Lynch
Class: 2024
MVP: Offensive Line
Position: Offensive Tackle
Size: 6’7 271
High School: Mount Olive High School (New Jersey)
Twitter: @AidanJLynchMOHS
Offers/Interest: Old Dominion, UConn, Duke, Leigh, Pitt, SMU
Lynch gets off the bus and passes the eye test, but when he steps on the gridiron he flips that switch. During the Select 50 Showcase he was super focused, payed attention to detail when being coached up and won rep after rep against athletic defenders. Lynch is technically sound, has a powerful punch when he engages, his great length enables him to extend easily and once he gets his clamps on his opponent, he locks them down. He sets the table quickly, has good hip bend to reach undersized rushers, excellent lateral movement allows him to get his lower half in position to reset himself at the snap and Lynch plays thru the echo of the whistle. While he lines up primarily at the left tackle position, he displayed his versatility by taking reps at right tackle. When you turn on the tape from his sophomore season, Lynch shows off the athletic ability to pull from his left tackle position across the formation and he has the speed to get to the second level to make blocks. A strong power step to close down gaps and the ability reset his feet to adjust to the pass rush are two strong attributes in Lynch’s game. He puts in work on the basketball court and is also a standout in Lacrosse. Already standing six-foot seven, he has the physical measurables that attract college programs. Lynch has two more seasons at Mount Olive to build his resume. He will be a national recruit with Power 5 interest, but is already raising eyebrows, as Old Dominion, SMU, Duke and UConn have been in contact for Lynch’s services at the next level.

Brennan Myer
Class: 2024
MVP: Overall Select 50 Showcase MVP
Position: Quarterback
Size: 6’1 180
High School: Frisco Wakeland
Twitter: @brennen_myer
Meyer has the tools and the skill set that coaches search for at the next level. He can flat out spin it!!. Meyer is a gifted passer who can thread the needle and fit the football into tight windows. He navigates the pocket well, has active but controlled footwork and his drop back is smooth, but deliberate whether under center or in the shotgun. Keeping his shoulders square and his torso firm when he delivers the football, enables him to add power on his throws. He sets up strong in the pocket with a good base, has strong hip torque and a powerful follow through. Meyer can make all of the throws on the route tree, has a quick release that allows him to get rid of the football quickly and be accurate. Brennan’s 2021 season tape shows that he is on the cusp of becoming a household name. He is a gunslinger with a big arm, has great touch on his deep with good arc and has the arm talent to throw his wide outs open. Meyer has the awareness in the pocket to step through a muddy pocket and make plays on the run, as well drop to multiple arm platforms to get rid of the football. He has the athleticism when the pocket gets heated to break contain and use his speed to move the chains. In 2021 he passed for 1,992 yards with a 61% completion percentage with 20 touchdowns and rushed for three scores, for a Frisco Wakeland team that advanced to the area round of the playoffs. He was selected as the 5-5A District Newcomer of The Year. He has the attention of schools around the country. Camp invites from Baylor, Texas Tech, Louisiana, LSU and Notre Dame, means that his stock is rising and he has caught the eyes of coaching staffs. Meyer also was invited to the Regional Elite 11 Combine this spring. The junior quarterback will no doubt have suitors for his services at the next level and has the game to develop into a top rated player in his class.

Zach Stein
Class: 2023
MVP: Tight End
Position: Tight End/ H-Back
Size: 6’0 215
High School: Collinsville High School (OK)
Twitter: @ZachStein23
Offers/Interest: William Penn, Evangel University, Central Arkansas, Drake, Concordia (NE), Central Oklahoma
Stein had the best hands consistently at the Select 50 Showcase. The football never hit the ground and his suction cup hands didn’t allow him to drop one pass thrown in his direction. His nimble footwork was on display during position specific drills. He runs precise routes, shows good hip flexibility in and out of his breaks and turns his shoulders to the quarterback to make himself an available target. His super power is his ability to make grabs in traffic from all angles. During the 7v7 portion of the Select 50 Showcase, he was a safety valve for the quarterbacks, catching high and low balls, showed the catch radius to extend out for grabs and he caught multiple touchdowns in the red zone. He uses his compact build and wide shoulders to body block defenders trying to fight through for the deflection. After reviewing his fall season in 2021, Stein shows the ability to work the seam to get open. He can line up in the slot or out wide, flares out to the flats from the H-Back position out of the backfield and is a weapon in the screen game. Stein also hops over on defense for Collinsville at outside linebacker. He sets the edge well keeping his outside shoulder free on sweeps, rushed the passer on the blitz causing turnovers and tackles well in space. With spread offenses being prevalent today, the H-Back position has taken a backseat in most offensive schemes. Stein will find a home at the next level whether it will be on the offense or defense will be the question. He definitely has the tools be a game changer.
Drew Denton
Class: 2024
MVP: Quarterback MVP
Position: Quarterback
Size: 6’0 160
High School: McKinney Christian
Twitter: @DrewDenton10
Offers/Interest: Houston, Notre Dame, Southeast Louisiana
Denton has the poise and confidence that coaches look for in a starting quarterback. He has a strong arm and can make all the throws on the route tree. Drew throws well on the run or rollout by squaring his shoulders up and opening his hips towards his target. During the Select 50 Showcase, Denton set up in the pocket well from under the center and in the shotgun. His athleticism and superb footwork aid him in navigating the pocket. He shined during the 7v7 portion, by putting perfect arc on his deep ball, fitting the football between the linebackers and safeties and had full command of the offense in his huddle. On the 7v7 circuit with his team Texas Pressure, Denton plays with the same fire, has a big arm, works the short to intermediate routes like a veteran and is a coach on the field. His spring film showed his ability to scan the field, go thru his progressions and make the correct read, he works the pocket and keeps his eyes on his target and Drew has the footspeed to escape the rush and hit his check down if needed. Denton has some college after a busy camp season and 7v7 season. The junior signal caller is a name to keep an eye on heading into the 2022 season.

Jacob Mainord
Class: 2025
MVP: Linebacker
Position: Linebacker
Size: 6’0 195
High School: Trinity Valley School (Fort Worth)
Twitter: @MainordJacob
Mainord moves fluidly in space, flips his well and has the speed to make plays on the edge. His compact build and powerful punch resulted in multiple wins during the pass protection drills versus the running backs. During the bag drills, he showed off nimble footwork, kept a good wide base and had good bend in his hips. In the pass coverage drills, Mainord showed the ability to stick closely to his man and his arm length allowed him to get several pass deflections. Once he lined up in pass coverage in the 7v7 portion of the showcase, his natural instincts took over. He plays the zones well, has good eye discipline and changes directions fluidly, which led to a pick six. Mainord was by far one of the campers who raised the eyebrows of the coaching staff with his MVP performance. After watching his freshman film, Mainord displays the ability to take on blocks and not give up his body. He shows good patience, doesn’t get happy feet and over run the play and keeps his shoulders square at the point of attack. Jacob tackles well in the open field and packs a punch. He shows his versatility and athleticism by doubling as running back. Look for Mainord to make some noise at Trinity Valley on Friday nights for the next three seasons.
