Ann Arbor Area Dream Team: Defense

A lot of that success is due to them developing great players like defensive end Bruce Willimas. I love the aggression that Williams plays with. He is the type of guy you never see take plays off. I guarantee the coaching staff loves the way Williams plays and will enjoy watching him get after the quarterback this year in 2022. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Defensive Line: [player_tooltip player_id='243409' first='Laith' last='Shamma'] | Ann Arbor Huron |<a href="http://www.hudl.com/v/2GBaBJ"> Hudl</a></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I had <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='243409' first='Laith' last='Shamma']</strong> on my Ann Arbor offensive dream team for his play on the offensive line. He is so good on the defensive line that I had to include him for the defense as well. I love the versatility that Shamma has on the defensive line. He can line up all the way on the inside as almost a zero-technique nose tackle and he can line up as a true defensive end as well. Shamma does a great job of engaging blockers, quickly reading where the ball carrier is going, and then shedding the block to make a tackle. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Linebacker: [player_tooltip player_id='251231' first='Micah' last='Smith'] | Ann Arbor Huron | <a href="http://www.hudl.com/v/2GRXmu">Hudl</a></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Smith is as sure of a tackler as you will find at the linebacker position. He is a guy that you are confident will bring the ball carrier to the ground nearly every time they come his way. His tackling form is outstanding, wrapping up with his head across and driving with his legs to make sure the ball carrier is down. Knowing that guys like<strong> [player_tooltip player_id='169537' first='Bruce' last='Williams'] </strong>and <strong>Latih Shamma</strong> will be disrupting the defensive line, you have to believe that Smith will mostly have a clear path to go after ball carriers. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Linebacker: [player_tooltip player_id='300675' first='Sullivan' last='Mills'] | Saline | </strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The ability to effectively blitz the quarterback is the first thing that stands out about <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='300675' first='Sullivan' last='Mills']</strong>. With his acceleration and timing, he is able to pressure the quarterback almost every time he blitzes. Mills takes outstanding pursuit angles to ball carriers and has the strength to make physical tackles. Mills moves so well in coverage and does a great job of reading where the quarterback is going to throw. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Defensive Back: [player_tooltip player_id='30353' first='Torrence' last='Greene'] | Ann Arbor Huron | <a href="http://www.hudl.com/v/2G0bwb">Hudl</a></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The first thing you love about <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='30353' first='Torrence' last='Greene']</strong> is his ability to come down with interceptions. Last year, Greene had a very impressive 6 interceptions. Greene has been All-Conference 3 straight times now and will look to add a 4th in 2022. I love the range he has in coverage. He makes it look effortless the way he reads where the ball is being thrown and turns to go make a play on the ball. He had an interception this past year against Dexter where he broke on the ball and then used his body control to still come down with the interception in bounce. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Defensive Back: Garrett Baldwin | Saline | <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/9771081/617e954634531601789f3b79">Hudl</a></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Baldwin is a guy who is always flying all over the field and making tackles. He has the speed to track down ball carriers and prevent big play touchdowns. Like <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='30353' first='Torrence' last='Greene']</strong>, Baldwin is great at creating turnovers for his team and coming down with interceptions. Last season, Baldwin hauled in 4 interceptions for his team.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
