In this town deep south on the southern border of the Magnolia State there is a lot of good football being played. Ocean Springs are lead by Coach Blake Pennock. They fell short last season in the second round to Oak Grove, but it was a very fun year for the Greyhounds. Some platforms had them ranked a number one all the way up to the Oak Grove game. Ocean Springs has another good chance to run the table again and make some things happen this year. Here is a quick preview on what the Greyhounds should be this season.
Brayson Hubbard, 6-2 185, ATH, 2023
Brayson has been on fire this summer and he has also commented to the University of Alabama. His hardwork is finally playing off and he is getting the recognition that he deserves. Bray is a true Ocean Springs guy and he has been around the program for a very long time. He understands what it means to be a Greyhound and he carries himself that way. He will be back doing what he does this year. Throwing long touchdowns and scrambling out of the pocket making mouth dropping plays. This is a season that us Mississippi fans will have to cherish. It will more than likely be our last time getting to see Mr. Hubbard play QB. This phenomenal young man will be playing safety at the college level. His 4.5 speed and nice long touchdown runs have been impressing the Roll Tide staff for a long time. They have come to a conclusion that he will best help them on defense. Brayson is going to put up more big numbers again this season in Ocean Springs.
JP Coulter, 5-11 175, WR, 2023
JP is very versatile on offense for the Greyhounds. I love his style. He is another one of those smooth criminal type guys on the field. He runs nice routes and gets open. He is a nice target for Bray to look around and get the ball to. He is a very dynamic player on the football field for the city of Ocean Springs. Bright lights and city lights are what I think of when I think of this star. He scored 12 TDs last season and did it in a very stylish fashion. He is a major factor in the Greyhound offense and you can look for him to make a lot of plays this season. He can hurt you on screen plays, trick plays and reverses. Keep an eye on JP.
Will Smith, 5-9 185, RB, 2025
The first time I ever heard this kid name was at their spring jamboree. They were in their varsity game against Picayune. He cuts the corner on one play and turns it up for a touchdown. I knew he was someone to remember. Will has great vision and makes nice cuts. He knows how to hit the hole hard, but he also knows how to be patient on plays where he needs to allow his blocking to set up. He is a guy that accelerates well when he is coming out of cuts. Will is a speed kind of guy that can also handle 20 rushes a game. He does not mind toting it all night taking a few bumps and bruises. He is expected to have a nice season running the ball for the Greyhounds.
Eric Moore, Jr, 6-1 210, LB, 2024
Eric is a guy who is aggressive and loves contact. He is a downhill LB that is going to make a lot of tackles this season for the Greyhounds. When I watched his film I noticed that he reads kids well, but I think he needs to throw those fundamentals from drills in their a bit more. He needs to make sure he gets good first steps when he is making his reads. Sometimes he takes off at bad angles and it causes him to kind of overrun plays. He has a high motor and you can tell he wants to be around the football. Just needs to work on that technique more.
Talan Carter Talan Carter 6'0" | 275 lbs | DL Ocean Springs | 2024 State MS , 6-0 275, DT, 2024
Talan is a guy who holds his ground in the trenches. There won’t be a lot of moving him around. If he is in the way then you are going to have to accept that. He is very strong when he plays in the middle. He has good technique when he shoots his hands. He sheds blocks and then gets his head around to make nice tackles. This kid knows how to pack the punch too. Within a minute of his sophomore season film he has two plays where he gets his helmet on the football and sends it flying in the air for a fumble. Those are the type of plays you want to see when you watch a kid’s film. Talan has two more years to steadily impress college coaches. I think sometimes he can get too far upfield. He needs to work on staying near the line of scrimmage when he beats his guy and not allow too much cut back room for the running back. Carter has a lot of potential and will help his defense be dominant this year.
