No matter where you look, you’ll find a strong, productive back who can play somewhere at the next level. There are many in the 2025 class who are looking to have breakout seasons as a sophomore this fall.
Here are some up and coming running backs to know in the 2025 class..
Javin Gordon Javin Gordon 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB Stephens County | 2025 State GA – Stephens County
In Northeast Georgia is where you’ll find one of the shiftiest and fastest backs in Georgia for the 2025 class. As a freshman last year, Gordon ran hard and showed he’s one of the top young backs in the area. In a backup role, the 5-foot-10 185-pounder made a big impact in his first year, rushing for 485 yards and 5 touchdowns. He has good size for his age and has a natural feel for the position. He reads the field well and knows how to burst through the line of scrimmage when given some space to run. He can bounce off tackles but knows how to make defenders miss as well. He certainly didn’t play like a freshman last year and has a very bright future ahead of him. Stephens County has plenty of weapons on offense, but Gordon is one who should see more opportunities to carry the ball in 2022.
Luke Windom Luke Windom 5'8" | 155 lbs | RB Bowdon | 2025 State GA – Bowdon
One of the more impressive and productive freshmen in the state last year, Windom showed big play ability for someone his age and ran wild on defenses all season long in West Georgia. A smaller, shiftier back with speed, Windom plays bigger than his size and showed a lot of toughness as well. Playing against defenders above his age, Windom played like an experienced veteran, rushing for over 1,000 yards and 9 touchdowns while adding over 100 receiving yards as well. He hides behind his blockers well, and when there’s a hole, Windom can sneak through it. He’s another dangerous back in thee open field who always has his eyes on the endzone. He was a fun prospect to watch and he has a chance to have a breakout sophomore season in 2022.
One of the top young backs in West Georgia, the Carrollton native showed lots of promise last year as a freshman, rushing for 850 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first season. He shows good footwork, gets upfield the second he sees daylight, and runs with balance as well. He’s tough, shifty, and really impressed for a freshman running back last year. He led the team in rushing and is likely to do it agains as a sophomore. He’s a natural running with playmaking ability, and he’s looking to score every time he has the ball. Look for him to have a breakout sophomore season and increase his already impressive numbers from last year.
Shane Marshall – Irwin County
One of the toughest underclassmen backs in the state, Marshall was excellent last year for run-heavy Irwin County who ran wild on defenses throughout the 2021 season. Even in a backup role, Marshall made quite an impact for a freshman, showing impressive strength and power for someone his age. He’s a strong down-hill runner who runs with good pad level and does a nice job of dragging defenders forward for extra yards. He’s a physical back with impressive lower-body strength, but he’s strong in the upper body as well, bench-pressing over 300-pounds. When he gets rolling past the line of scrimmage, he can be tough to bring down by just one defender. As a freshman last year, Marshall rushed for 764 yards and averaged over 6 yards per carry. He also rushed for 7 touchdowns on the season. Look for Marshall to help Irwin County run deep into the Single-A state playoffs in 2022.
