Brophy
Brophy comes off a 7-5 2021 season with a close playoff loss against Red Mountain. Historically, Brophy has been a highly touted program loaded with division 1 prospects, but hasn’t been able to hit their stride in the playoffs. Despite losing numerous high caliber prospect to graduation, Brophy still possesses a young arsenal of talent including 2024 edge Mardale Rowe Mardale Rowe 6'3" | 230 lbs | DL Brophy | 2024 State AZ and 2023 WR Layton Duncan Layton Duncan 6'1" | 180 lbs | WR Brophy | 2023 State AZ . They also have some prospects that project to put themselves on the map this season, including an exposive all around 2025 ATH in Christian Camarata Christian Camarata 5'10" | 175 lbs | WR Brophy | 2025 State AZ and 2024 QB Charlie McGinnis Charlie McGinnis 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Brophy College Preparatory | 2024 AZ .
Red Mountain
Red Mountain contnues to be slept on and I’m really not sure why. Emerging QB Carter Crispin Carter Crispin 5'11" | 180 lbs | QB Red Mountain | 2023 State AZ returns for his senior season after stepping up big last season and will do so again by throwing to a top WR in the state in Ja’Kobi Lane Ja’Kobi Lane 6'5" | 180 lbs | WR Red Mountain | 2023 State AZ . Meanwhile, their ground attack and overall playmaker in the Central Michigan commit Lenox Lawson Lenox Lawson 5'11" | 175 lbs | RB Red Mountain | 2023 State AZ should add more of a spark to that offense, as they have the potential to put up crazy numbers on offense this season. They come off an 11-3 season from a year ago and have all the potential to be that sneaky team in 6A here in 2022.
Mountain Pointe
MPHS is stacked with prime talent from top to bottom and they could easily come out of the gates hot, but will have a big test week 2 vs Vegas based Arbor View High School. With returning QB Chris Arviso Chris Arviso 6'2" | 175 lbs | QB Mountain Pointe | 2023 State AZ and the addition of standout ATH Christian Clark Christian Clark 6'0" | 195 lbs | ATH Mountain Pointe | 2024 State AZ transferring over from Desert Vista, this alone establishes a lethal combo both on the ground and through the air. 2025 standout Kaleb Jones Kaleb Jones 6'2" | 290 lbs | DL Mountain Pointe | 2025 State AZ will play a major role, and projects to take a massive leap in terms of both maturity and skillset into 2022 to continue to establish himself as a top 2025 prospect in the state.
Mountain Ridge
Mountain Ridge has a handful of promising prospects, and will be led into 2022 by their highly touted 2023 QB Brendan Anderson Brendan Anderson 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Mountain Ridge | 2023 State AZ . Anderson holds offers from St. Thomas and Yale and projects to bring the juice to that Ridge offense this fall. Along with Anderson, standout and Northwestern commit Alex Doost Alex Doost 6'6" | 310 lbs | OL Mountain Ridge | 2023 State AZ has emerged as an absolute bully in the trenches and will play another key role in Ridge’s sucess in 2022. Mountain Ridge comes off an 8-4 season and will enter 2022 with a clean slate and loads of potential with the talent in that west valley squad.
Perry
I think this could be the year that Perry gets revived. With the hiring of former Cactus head coach Joe Ortiz, the program already took a major leap in an upward direction. Ortiz is very respected coach with proven success to help translate into Perry. Perry also returns standout DE and Air Force commit Aiden Herring Aiden Herring 6'3" | 250 lbs | DL Perry | 2023 State AZ , who is an absolute monster on the edges and a kid that plays with a ton of grit. Perry will test themselves week 1 as they open up with a Vegas based school in Spring Valley, and then follow up in the upcoming weeks against Desert Vista, Corona del Sol, and Dobson. They are in the toughest region in the state, so it will be interesting to see if they can compete with Hamilton, Chandler, Basha and Casteel.
