Sutter Union is year in and year out a perennial powerhouse in the Northern Section and came up one game short from a state title appearance last Fall. Going into 2022 and moving into the SJS, they have some key starters returning along with losing some impact players from the 2021 team. Below, we will breakdown some of their top players and their 2021 film while previewing what can be in store this Fall.

RB/DE Joshua Gregor, 2023
Gregor is a terrific overall athlete for his size and does damage running the ball along with coming off the edge and rushing the passer. He has a strong build and good speed through the hole while very tough to tackle and easily breaks arm and ankle tackles in the short area. Off the ball, he is quick twitched and wins with hands and bend while collapsing the pocket. Going into 2022, he will be one of the better two-way players the section has to offer.
DE/RB Auckland Asiata, 2024
Asiata will be one of the top breakout players across the section in 2022 and has put together a terrific off-season. Well built and a strong 215+ with speed and lateral movement abilities, he is an explosive pass rusher with heavy hands at the POA and wins with leverage and leg drive through contact while showing a quick use of hands and natural bend off the edge. Playing with a relentless motor and quickly diagnosing plays while able to close and pursue backside, Asiata is a well rounded thumper that will be one of the top defenders regardless of class that the SJS has to offer this Fall.
QB [player_tooltip player_id="244056" first="Luke" last="Miller"], 2023
Miller is a veteran signal caller for Sutter and is poised in the pocket while able to throw on the run and escape pressure up the middle. Showing a strong pocket presence, he is accurate in the short and intermediate game while able to take off and run as he shows some open field speed and a first level burst. A high IQ kid, he moves safeties with his eyes and can throw on the run while very smart with the ball and takes what is given.

WR Keegan Perches, 2024

Perches is a big framed kid that can play multiple positions on both sides of the ball while able to stretch the field. A long strider, he covers ground vertically and can make contested catches while having a big catch radius in traffic. After the catch, he gets upfield quickly and can break open field tackles with strong contact balance and a long stride. Underneath, he knows when to settle against zone coverage and is a mismatch against smaller corners in man coverage.
