Many participants from the Carolinas and beyond got tested in the 40-yard dash, agility drills, and 1 on 1’s in front of a number of college coaches in attendance. These are a few standouts from my perspective in a four-part series:
William Brown – TE – Independence – Class of 2024 – William has had a very strong offseason and had another great showing at Camp LIT. William has an incredible focus and competitive spirit, especially during 1 on 1 competitions where he expects to make every catch and win every rep possible. He has very strong hands and has the speed and agility to win in the vertical passing game against linebackers and safeties. Standing at 6’0 he may project to more of an H-Back/Move player on the next level, however, those types of players have become much more valuable with the diversity in offensive football we are seeing now.
Nick Segarra – TE – Charlotte Catholic – Class of 2024 – Nick was very physically impressive at 6’5 220 pounds, and you can easily see where he can add more weight and be a big-time contributor in the future on the next level. He is a good receiver and a good athlete, he’s smooth and can create separation. He also uses his size well to high point the football in 1 on 1 situations. He played JV last season mainly because his school had two very good tight ends – one being Jack Larsen Jack Larsen 6'3" | 215 lbs | TE Charlotte Catholic | 2024 State NC who recently committed to Norte Dame, so the program has the pedigree of developing excellent players in this position.
Steven Odell – OL – Broome – Class of 2024 – Steven is a big and strong offensive lineman standing at 6’6 ad 290 pounds. The thing that I love is that even at that size, he moves very well to play the offensive tackle position, where you have to have great footwork and agility to take on speed rushers coming off the edge. When you look at his film, he is a big-time nasty player in the run game – he blocks to the echo of the whistle and loves to finish – on his film it states he had 32 pancake blocks last season, that’s huge as a sophomore. He should start to see offers rolling in sooner than later for sure.
Trenton McGill – OL – Fort Mill – Class of 2025 – Trenton is a stout and strong player at 6 feet and 250 pounds, being that he is a 2025 player you can reasonably expect him to grow a couple of inches and work on his body some over the next couple of years. I love his initial step and punch to stunt a defensive tackles’ charge off of the line of scrimmage – in the 1 on 1’s I witnessed he did not give up much ground at his guard position on the inside of the offensive line. In watching his film, he does a good job in the run game in working double teams and combo off to the next level, as well as showing some good ability on long pulls/traps on the defensive end on off-tackle run plays.
Robert Wright – OL – Stockbridge (GA) – Class of 2023 – Robert has offers from Mercer, Austin Peay, Jacksonville State, and Reinhardt University. Charlotte also offered him after Camp LIT and it was an easy decision based on what I saw. Robert is 6’5 and 275 pounds and showed excellent footwork at that size and looked dominant all day long from agility drills to 1 on 1’s against defensive linemen in attendance. His highlight film shows a lineman that can also play Center, which is a huge value, and also someone who plays to the echo of the whistle. Robert will no doubt have many more options in front of him before he decides where he goes on the next level.
