The state of Georgia is always full of impressive running backs and the future is bright across the peach state. There’s talent in all corners of the state and there are plenty on the verge of breakout seasons in 2022. Here are some breakout running backs to know for the 2022 season... Jumal Prothro - Brookwood Last season the powerful Brookwood Broncos had an outstanding rushing attack led by Alexander Diggs, and now they’ll turn to rising senior Jumal Prothro to lead the way on the ground in 2022. The quick, elusive, versatile back showed plenty of promise last year in a backup role, rushing for 455 yards with another 278 yards receiving. He’s the ultimate "Swiss Army Knife" who can hurt defenses in a number of different ways. Whether he’s lined up in the backfield or in the slot as a pass-catcher, Prothro knows how to make big plays with the ball in his hands. He’s an excellent route runner, he’s tough, he’s intelligent, and he’ll take on a leadership role for the Broncos as a senior. He’ll likely be used in a lot of different ways this year, so expect him to have a breakout season for one of the top programs in Gwinnett County. Ronell Caffey - South Paulding It’s tough to find a better rushing attack going into the 2022 season than they one at South Paulding. They have one of the state’s best backs already in [player_tooltip player_id="321265" first="Jamarion" last="Wilcox"], and they have another talented back in rising senior Ronell Caffey. A quick, elusive back with great balance, Caffey plays bigger than his size at 5-foot-10 175-pounds and was rushing for 7 yards a game before sustaining an injury. If he’s fully healthy as expected going into the season in August, look for Caffey to have a strong season alongside Wilcox. He shows good footwork, hits the hole hard, and knows how to fall forward for extra yards. There’s a good chance he’ll have more opportunities to show what he can do in his final year, and we expect him to make the most of his touches and opportunities. He’d be the lead back at a lot of other schools, and he has a chance to have an impressive year in 2022. Jordan Louie - Meadowcreek Although he’s already a D1 prospect and a current West Virginia commitment, Louie makes the list because he’s now playing in the peach state this year. He played in Alabama last season, and now that he’s at Meadowcreek, Louie has a chance to show what he can do against some quality 7A defenses in Gwinnett County. He’s a tough back who breaks tackles, stays on his feet, and gives it his all on every play. He’s also a receiving threat and will bring another element to the Meadowcreek offense. He’s a true big play threat and has a chance to be one of the very best in the area this season. He has good vision, impressive footwork, and will be tough to stop all season. He’s a dynamic athlete to know who can make plays in a lot of different ways. [player_tooltip player_id="327197" first="David" last="Eziomume"] - North Cobb A versatile athlete coming off a promising sophomore season last year, Ezimume is a true breakout candidate across the state this year due to his speed and athletic ability. He can line up in the backfield, in the slot, or outside, and with North Cobb’s dominant rushing attack, the rising junior has a chance to have a giant junior season. He’ll still share carries with Ben Hall and [player_tooltip player_id="34008" first="Malachi" last="Singleton"], two excellent runners, but Ezimume has proved that he deserves a bigger role this fall. He has game-changing speed and is tough to run down by defenders in the open space. He changes directions well, he can make defenders miss, and has a chance to light up defenses this fall.
