Continue ReadingWith June coming to an end, and with that a large chunk of the camp season, it is time to look back through the rankings and identify the top prospects who are still hunting for their first college offer. We are going to focus on the Class of 2023 as they are obviously the ones in the spotlight and receiving the majority of offers. I will be using each athlete’s Twitter account to verify that they don’t have an offer, yet. For each athlete we will recap any camp results, and then take a look into their film from last fall. Here we go!
Blake Barry Blake Barry 6'0" | 210 lbs | RB Kimberly | 2023 State WI , RB- Kimberly
We start this article off with one of WI’s biggest steals at the RB position. He attended the Lindenwood Mega Camp, and was invited to several other camps earlier this spring. Yet, we have made it to the end of June and the big, strong RB hasn’t earned his first offer according to his Twitter. Teams looking for an RB with a big frame and the strength to match then this is your guy. Blake is 6’ 205 lbs, squats 540 lbs, benches 335 lbs, and you see that strength translate to the field. The big man is a one cut, north- south runner who shows the burst needed to accelerate through holes. He runs through arm tackles unfazed, and does a very impressive job of always going forward. I think he gains a lot of traction this fall when he takes the field. This Kimberly team is going to be well worth keeping an eye on, and Blake is one of the reasons why.
Bradley Bushke Bradley Bushke 6'4" | 190 lbs | ATH Mayville | 2023 State WI , ATH- Mayville
Bradley is a versatile prospect who has an interesting position combo for one of the top teams in the state. Bradley finished 2021 as an All State Honorable Mention DE, and a First team Unanimous All Conference DE/WR. Bradley has a great frame at 6’4″ 190 lbs allowing him to box out and attack the high point of the ball at WR and create lots of separation and initiate contact at DE. Bradley also has next level speed running a 4.58 40 at the Prep Redzone WI Prospect Tour this past spring. He also performed at the NIU, Wisconsin, and NDSU camps. Between his size, speed, and production I don’t see why he hasn’t received an offer. It can’t be much longer. This season he is going to continue to dominate as Mayville looks to make another state finals run. Keep an eye out for this dude.
Drew Edmond Drew Edmond 6'1" | 200 lbs | RB Brookfield Central | 2023 State WI , RB- Brookfield Central
The 6’1″ 195 lbs RB showed off a nose for the endzone in 2021 scoring 15 TDs, and earning First Team All Conference RB. Drew is a downhill, power back who runs behind his pads well as he piles up yards after contact. He definitely has enough open field speed to be able to create big plays. I could see him playing RB or FB at the next level because of his skill set. This summer Drew attended the Lindenwood Mega Camp, been on a couple visits, and received interest, but he is still looking for his first next level offer. BC is going to have a solid OL clearing the way for the power back this fall. It should lead to big numbers, great performances, and next level offers.
David Gauderman David Gauderman 6'2" | 225 lbs | ATH Wittenberg-Birnamwood | 2023 State WI , LB- Wittenberg- Birnamwood
This is the biggest surprise on this list. Gauderman is one of the top LBs in the state. He checks in at 6’2″ 227 lbs. He doesn’t just have the look. He has the athletic profile. David has a 1.54 second 10 yard split, a 4.32 shuttle, and a 7.11 3 cone drill. He is also tough as can be proven by playing 5 games on a broken foot. Gauderman clearly has the burs to play off the edge, and he closes quickly leading to very hard hits. I also believe he has the range to be able to play off the ball in space, which he will have to do because of his lack of elite length. The big man attended the Lindenwood Camp, and he has received interest from a lot of the FCS programs out in the Dakotas. The numbers, talent, and film area ll there. A team needs to come forward and make the offer. Buy stock in this kid.
Caden Healy Caden Healy 6'2" | 180 lbs | ATH Colby | 2023 State WI , ATH- Colby
This is another head-scratcher. The state champion is a playmaker on both sides of the ball with a 6’2″ 180 lbs frame. He thrived as a safety/LB and RB his junior year. It is easy to see why he stood out form the crowd when putting up numbers like a 4.59 40 yard dash, 11.25 100 M Dash, and a 40″ vertical. Despite having that next level athleticism, Caden will happily rely on his physicality to shed blocks and make tackles on defense, or run through tackle attempts with impressive contact balance before turning to the speed to easily pull away in the open field. Caden attended the WFCA and put up great numbers besides having a sprained ankle, and also was at the Prep Redzone WI winter showcase in 2021. Healy is definitely slipping under the radar. Check him out. He is going to be a go to guy for Colby this fall.
Darius Jones Jr. Darius Jones Jr. 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB Neenah | 2023 State WI , LB- Neenah
This is another steal as one of the hidden gems of northern WI is still looking for his first offer. The 6’1″ 215 lbs ILB has camped at St. Thomas and Miami (OH) according to his Twitter. I highly recommend popping on the highlights and watch the burst he plays with once he reads the play. He can close very quickly on the ball, and he lays the wood when he gets there. Darius has also shown that he can handle playing in the middle of the field, mirror the QB, and bring him down if he attempts to scramble. He can also pursue sideline to sideline effectively. I firmly believe that Darius can make an impact at the D3/D2 levels. He is a steal in the making.
Javon Murry Javon Murry 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Greendale | 2023 State WI , ATH- Greendale
I went and watched Javon week one last fall. That is where he first caught my attention. He made play after play on both sides of the ball. On offense, the 5’10″ 175 lbs athlete is a great change of pace option for the next level. He has the speed to beat pursuit angles down the sideline, has the vision to find his way through trash and into the open field on the edge. His instincts impress me. I think he makes a big stride on that side of the ball production-wise this fall. On defense, Javon is a twitchy CB who plays the ball in the air well, and is aggressive at the catch point with his hands. He is also aggressive against the run game where he will fly off the edge and tackle with strong form.
Jonah Freide, QB/ATH- Waukesha North
The 6’3″ 190 lbs QB/ATH is an interesting prospect. He has gotten a lot of interest and Junior Day invites, but I haven’t seen any camp results or offers, yet. I highly suggest you take a look at the highlights. He has a great frame for the position, and many others, as well as the athleticism to play several positions. The kid has the arm to be able to sling it downfield with velocity, and he plays with that gunslinger mentality where he will trust his abilities over anything. It has led to some big time plays for him and his offense. I think he is very raw at this point, but the tools are very intriguing. When he makes a jump in play this fall he is going to see a quick increase in his recruitment. Have this kid on your recruiting boards, and make sure to check in on his tape early and often this fall.
