The St. Louis Metro Football Coaches Association held its Spring Showcase on May 16 at De Smet High School in St. Louis.
The showcase featured approximately 100 prospects from the 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 classes and included testing in the 40-yard dash (laser) and pro-agility drill before moving on to positional and one-on-one drills.
Here is a quick look at some of the players who stood out:
QB [player_tooltip player_id="185609" first="Joseph" last="Federer"], Marquette
Federer, who measured in at 5 feet 11 and 180 pounds, has had some good testing numbers at events this offseason. At the SLMFCA Showcase, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.8 seconds and recorded a pro-agility time of 4.25 seconds. The Mustangs have a talented quarterback in the Class of 2023 coming back this fall, but Federer looks like a nice prospect to watch.
QB [player_tooltip player_id="126261" first="Grant" last="Gibson"], Rockwood Summit
Gibson, who has transferred from Fox to Rockwood Summit, already looks like a college quarterback at 6-3 and 213 pounds and has a strong skill set that should attract plenty of attention from colleges. He recorded a pro-agility time of 4.76 seconds and ran the 40 in 5.34. He could have a breakout junior season with the Falcons.
RB [player_tooltip player_id="322567" first="Payton" last="Brown"], Hillsboro
Brown is a decent-sized running back at 6-1 and 204 pounds and has some speed and quickness. He recorded a pro-agility time of 4.66 and a 40 of 4.95. Brown was Hillsboro's third-leading rusher as a sophomore, behind a pair of 1,000-yard rushers, and averaged 11.4 yards per carry. He also added 30 tackles and two sacks on defense and, with those 1,000-yard rushers both returning, we could see him breaking out on the defensive side of the ball as a junior before getting the chance to carry the load as a senior in 2024.
RB [player_tooltip player_id="360395" first="Billy" last="Hall"], Ritenour
A solidly-built 5-7 and 195 pounds, Hall recorded a 40-yard dash of 4.83 seconds and a pro-agility time of 4.91. The Huskies have some good options at running back, but we wouldn't be surprised if Hall has success with whatever carries he's able to get.
RB [player_tooltip player_id="360397" first="Christopher" last="Heard"], Westminster
Measuring in at 5-9 and 175 pounds, Heard recorded a 4.25-second pro-agility time to go with a 40-yard dash time of 4.88 seconds. The Wildcats will have to replace a 1,500-yard rusher and we could see Heard emerge in the backfield this fall.
RB [player_tooltip player_id="126233" first="Zyan" last="Royal"], Parkway North
Royal, a 5-8, 156-pounder, had a breakout season a year ago as a sophomore when he rushed for 1,096 yards and scored 17 touchdowns. He has looked like a smaller, speedy back and performed well at events this offseason. He recorded a 4.62 40-yard dash and a pro-agility time of 4.37 seconds.
RB [player_tooltip player_id="126255" first="Elijah" last="Stevens"], Rockwood Summit
Stevens, a 5-10, 187-pounder, is also coming off a breakout sophomore season where he racked up a team-high 812 total yards (662 rushing, 150 receiving) and 16 touchdowns. He's had strong combine performances this offseason and has showed speed and quickness. He recorded a pro-agility time of 4.44 seconds and a 40-yard dash of 4.68.
WR [player_tooltip player_id="126216" first="Zae" last="Jones"], Lafayette
Another prospect who had a breakout sophomore season, Jones measured in at 5-8 and 164 pounds and was arguably the fastest player at the Showcase by running a 4.5 40-yard dash to go along with a pro-agility time of 4.66. Jones excelled as a receiver and a runner as a sophomore when he racked up a team-high 758 total yards (404 receiving, 354 rushing) and 14 touchdowns.
WR [player_tooltip player_id="360399" first="Jamaury" last="Taylor"], Parkway North
Taylor, who measured in a 5-7 1/2 and 144 pounds, will be a player to watch this fall after running the 40-yard dash in 4.7 seconds and recording a pro-agility time of 4.72 seconds.
OL [player_tooltip player_id="285086" first="Davis" last="Schukar"], MICDS
Schukar wasn't measured at the event — his Twitter bio lists him at 6-4 and 251 pounds — but recorded a pro-agility time of 4.84 seconds, ran the 40 in 5.45 and looked good in his one-on-one battles. Schukar is a high-academic prospect and should be an Ivy League target.
ATH [player_tooltip player_id="126254" first="Sam" last="Vu"], Rockwood Summit
Listed as an athlete at the Showcase, and by the Falcons as a wide receiver-cornerback, Vu is a 5-7, 161-pounder with speed and quickness who can make an impact on either side of the ball. He turned in a pro-agility time of 4.3 seconds and a 40-yard dash time of 4.61 seconds. He recorded 32 tackles as a sophomore playing varsity and was Summit's third-leading receiver behind two seniors. We wouldn't be surprised if he has a breakout season as a junior this fall.
