Rockledge Impresses On Day 2 At UCF
Orlando – If the first two days on the UCF 7-on-7 and Linemen Camp is any indication, this summer is going to be a lot of fun.
Like Wednesday, several football programs and linemen flocked to eastern Orlando to compete and gain exposure. When the dust settled, Coach Wayne Younger and his Raiders from Rockledge took home the team title, beating Miami Northwestern in the finals.
In what was a star-filled Thursday, elite line prospects learned and were watched by UCF coaches, competing and going through drills.
While that was taking place, the 7-on-7, which was hampered by local thunderstorms, saw programs showcase their talent, and the Raiders certainly did that.
In addition to Rockledge and Miami Northwestern, the Final 4 also included a surprising Oviedo squad and a Miami Booker T. Washington team that captured the recent FSU 7-on-7 team title.
The competition came from all over. Georgia’s Brookwood High was there. So were Brooksville Nature Coast, Palm Bay Bayside, Clearwater, Ocala Vanguard, Miami Monsignor Pace, Port Orange Spruce Creek, Lakeland Lake Gibson, Crescent City, defending 5A state runner up Merritt Island, Daytona Beach Mainland and a Fort Pierce John Carroll team that lose in Tallahassee to Booker T. Washington in the title game.
The Tampa area was well represented with Lithia Newsome, Tampa Jefferson and Tampa Wharton having strong showings.
In addition to Oviedo, Orlando area teams such as Orlando Jones, Apopka Wekiva, Orlando Olympia, Winter Garden West Orange, Groveland South Lake and Oviedo Hagerty were in attendance.
With a third day schedule for Saturday, Rockledge joins Wednesday’s champion Vero Beach as teams that stood at the top of the day-long competition.
Twenty four more schools will be there on Thursday and 23 more on Saturday.
