Monday, he had zero offers. Then he attended the Eastern New Mexico camp Tuesday at La Cueva High School in northeast Albuquerque, ran a 4.45 in the 40 and was quickly offered by the Greyhounds.
Wednesday, New Mexico Highlands offered.
Thursday, he arrived at the University of New Mexico’s three-day camp at UNM Stadium. During individual testing, he ran the 40 in 4.44 seconds. By Friday night, he had been offered by the Lobos.
Sunday morning, Trujillo announced his commitment to UNM, fulfilling a life-long dream of playing for the Lobos.
In football vernacular, that’s known as a whirlwind week.
But Trujillo wouldn’t have had it any other way.
“I’ve been a huge Lobos fan ever since I was little, so it’s nice to be able to play there,” Trujillo old Prep Redzone New Mexico shortly after revealing his decision. “This week was crazy. I wasn’t really expecting anything but I’m glad that the camps helped me.”
As a Lobo, Trujillo with reunite with former Cleveland WR Luke Wysong and allow him to continue playing with current Cleveland QB Evan Wysong Evan Wysong 5'10" | 165 lbs | QB Cleveland | 2023 State NM , who committed to UNM a few months ago.
“It’s been a dream of mine to play college football since I was 5 years old,” Trujillo said in a statement posted on social media. “Coach G and the rest of the UNM staff have blessed me to do so.”
Committing to UNM also allows Trujillo to reunite with former Cleveland head coach Heath Ridenour, who joined the UNM staff as quarterbacks coach in early January after leading the Storm to another Class 6A championship in November.
“It has always been my goal to play for the Lobos, and the opportunity to play with the Wysong brothers and Coach Ridenour again just makes it better,” Trujillo said.
Trujillo had 51 receptions for 906 receptions and 10 touchdowns for Cleveland last season.
The Storm open the 2022 season Aug. 19 at home against Centennial.
