Continue ReadingWe are right in the middle of spring football camps and programs are getting an early idea of what it is their team may look like come the fall. Players are getting an idea of what is working for them as far as their training and diets are concerned. At the same time, new and veteran coaches are figuring out what may or may not be working for them. Whether it is the drills they do, or the scrimmage games played coaches and players are fine tuning their games on the regular. In this series I will be covering as many schools as I can, from as many different classes as I can. ln this article we will take a look at the class 7A Southside Mavericks of Fort Smith.
George Herrell #6
Quarterback
c/o 2024
George Herrell is a 6’0″ 170lb quarterback who is certainly on the rise. Herrell displays great poise while inside the pocket. He has a good arm, makes good decisions, and is very accurate. When his turn comes around, George will most certainly be ready. Herrell does a great job of leading his receivers, as well as knowing when he needs to go off script to make a play. He has looked very good in spring football so far, picking up where he left off at seasons end. Herrell and the Maverick offense look to turn some heads in the 2022 season.
Kobe Branham Kobe Branham 6'6" | 320 lbs | OL Fort Smith Southside | 2024 State AR #50
OL
c/o 2024
Kobe’s film was very fun to watch. He gets his feet set very quickly, he keeps his legs driving in the running game, and gets himself set on the edge when at the tackle position. Branham stands at 6’5″ 300lbs and has become a very important piece to this offensive line. Kobe has been looking very good in spring ball as well, picking up where he left off last season. Branham and this Maverick offense look to impose their will this upcoming season.
John Parkinson John Parkinson 6'2" | 210 lbs | DL Fort Smith Southside | 2024 State AR #89
DE/OLB
c/o 2024
This is the second time that I have had the pleasure of watching John’s film, and like before I was not disappointed. Parkinson wreaks havoc on opposing offensive lines, sometimes looking straight up mean out there (in a good way). John is 6’2″ 215lbs, he runs a 4.8 40-yard dash, and has a very high motor. John gets off the line fast, he uses his hands very well when rushing, and in dangerous when chasing down whoever has the ball. Parkinson does whatever he has to do to make a play for his team. He and the rest of the Maverick defense look to make some noise in 2022.
Dominic Parkinson #45
MLB/OLB
c/o 2025
Dominic Parkinson is making himself known one big hit at a time. Parkinson is 5’8″ 165lbs, he has a 4.9 40-yard dash as well as a 25″ vertical. Dominic in dangerous when defending the run, as well as the pass, and he can cover a lot of ground. Parkinson has the potential to be a very good linebacker. His film was a lot of fun to watch. What I came away with the most was how fearless Parkinson is, which is a linebacker’s best quality in my opinion. If he keeps putting the work in, Dominic and the Maverick defense could really turn some heads in 2022.
