LSU wrapped up its June camp schedule Friday morning with the final session of its annual Elite Prospects Camp.
A slew of talented in-state 2024 and 2025 prospects took over the bulk of the headlines to close the event, with a few key rising seniors and out-of-state prospects sprinkled into the mix.
Here were several of the top performers and developments regarding Louisiana athletes.
WIDE RECEIVERS
As far as position groups, the pass-catchers seemed to lead the day.
St. Augustine’s tall 2024 tandem of [player_tooltip player_id="139475" first="Joshua" last="Jackson"] and [player_tooltip player_id="285268" first="Bobby" last="Kennedy"] were two of the best-looking prospects in drill work with receivers coaches Cortez Hankton and Carter Sheridan and took the lead as the outside target with the first group during 7-on-7 competition.
Rising sophomore Russell Babineaux made his way to Baton Rouge for his first camp experience and cut up opposing defenses all day with his route-running and quickness. The 2025 prospect from Acadiana picked up an LSU offer in April and more than lived up to corresponding expectations with one of the most impressive performances of the day.
Rising senior [player_tooltip player_id="275592" first="Alex" last="Beard"] of Lafayette Christian showed up, as always, and had a highly productive day of his own, as always. Beard has sought out any opportunity for development or competition throughout his high school career, and made one catch after another Friday in one-on-ones and 7-on-7 drills.
And 2025 prospects [player_tooltip player_id="144898" first="Tre" last="Fuller"] (Captain Shreve), [player_tooltip player_id="148530" first="Zay" last="Martin"] (University Lab) and [player_tooltip player_id="291082" first="Amari" last="Clayton"] (Catholic) were among the top underclassmen to keep an eye on for Louisiana’s rising sophomore class.
RUNNING BACKS
The top running back throughout the day appeared to be highly productive St. Martin’s standout [player_tooltip player_id="291097" first="Harlem" last="Berry"]. The rising sophomore put up huge numbers in his first high school season at a lower classification level to begin garnering some college attention and has started to blow up on the recruiting trail this spring with a pair of outdoor track and field state titles in sprinting events and a strong camp season. The nephew of Florida assistant Jabbar Juluke — a New Orleans native with LSU, Louisiana Tech and Louisiana (Lafayette) among his previous stops — ran a 4.38-second 40-yard dash Friday morning, then looked great in drills with position coach Frank Wilson III and recruiting staffer Nicholas Brossette, himself a former 1,000-yard LSU rusher.
Thibodaux athlete [player_tooltip player_id="138294" first="Demarcus" last="Singleton"] was also back in action in his home state Friday after spending this fall season in Houston because of the impact of Hurricane Ida. The camp formats have given Singleton some of his best opportunities each of the past two summers to show his ability as a pass-catcher. He also recently visited Florida State and has Memphis next up this weekend.
LINEMEN
Neville offensive tackle [player_tooltip player_id="138389" first="Zalance" last="Heard"] made the trip from Monroe not only to spend time with the new coaching staff, but to compete in the camp — something few of Louisiana’s top seniors are doing anymore this summer — and looked great in his workouts.
The same can be said for Natchitoches Central offensive tackle [player_tooltip player_id="361374" first="Tyler" last="Johnson"], who has somewhat quietly started establishing himself as one of the more intriguing prospects in the class and picked up his first 10 offers in the past few months in the process.
A younger, but already-notable prospect in the trenches, 2026 defensive tackle [player_tooltip player_id="212343" first="Lamar" last="Brown"] of University Lab, was also in attendance competing against the older athletes and already holding his own.
DEFENSIVE BACKS
Three of the event’s top defensive backs were in-state prospects at different junctures of their recruiting processes.
Rising senior [player_tooltip player_id="188943" first="Ashton" last="Stamps"] of Rummel has been a talented, versatile, but largely under-the-radar athlete on the Tigers’ radar for months and finally earned his scholarship offer with back-to-back impressive days on campus.
Rising junior [player_tooltip player_id="139261" first="Ju’Juan" last="Johnson"], who plays quarterback for Lafayette Christian, returned for the third time in two weeks since picking up his offer earlier this month and was impressive once again — particularly considering he’s only started training as a DB in the past couple months.
Another rising junior, John F. Kennedy corner [player_tooltip player_id="285193" first="Bernard" last="Causey"], was lockdown in his own right and showed why nine colleges extended offers this spring.
