Continue ReadingCamp season is in full swing and Prep Redzone Nebraska scouts are out in full force scouting at different school camps. We visited Iowa Western Community College on 5/28 to check out their individual camp. The day was split into two sessions: the “Hogs and Dogs” in the morning and the Skills positions in the afternoon. Hogs and Dogs consisted of offensive and defensive linemen. Skills position featured the remaining positions.
This article will feature six offensive linemen that really caught my eye during the Hogs and Dogs camp.
Payton McDonald Payton McDonald 6'3" | 295 lbs | OL Omaha Westside | 2023 State NE (2023) | Omaha Westside | 6’3″ 295 lbs
Payton is a player that I become more impressed with every time I watch his film or watch him in person. Payton is the type of offensive lineman you love to have on your unit. He’s a big, mean, tough mauler in the trenches who embraces physicality. McDonald uses his hands very well, and gaining inside leverage has almost become second nature for him. Payton has shifty feet and a strong lower body that keeps him from getting pushed off his set and allows him to generate a lot of force into his punches. Surprisingly, Payton is still waiting on his first offer, but he is drawing interest from Augustana, Minnesota State-Mankato, and Sioux Falls. He should see that first offer sooner rather than later.
Barrett Luce Barrett Luce 6'4" | 285 lbs | OL Millard South | 2023 State NE (2023) | Millard South | 6’4″ 280 lbs
Barrett has been one of the biggest risers over the past few days. Since picking up his first offer from Minnesota State-Mankato on 6/9, Barrett has added offers from Wayne State, Southwest Minnesota, Walford, Northern State, and Findlay University. When you watch Barrett play, it’s evident why he has been blowing up. He has excellent size and lots of power in his game. Barrett is very physical and loves to bring the fight to his opponent. He doesn’t get pushed around very easily and is very smart when it comes to maintaining a lower center of gravity. Luce is now with Millard South and should be a star on the Patriot’s offensive line.
Zach Cross Zach Cross 6'5" | 290 lbs | OL Millard West | 2023 State NE (2023) | Millard West | 6’5″ 290 lbs
There’s still time to jump on the Zach Cross Zach Cross 6'5" | 290 lbs | OL Millard West | 2023 State NE bandwagon before the season starts. Zach was highly impressive at the Reiver’s camp and showed that he’s not only a dog but might be one of the top dogs among 2023 linemen. Zach is a tall, strong offensive tackle that moves very well for someone his size. For being 6’5″, Zach actually does a great job maintaining low pad level and bend at the knee. He has long arms with lots of power behind them. You could hear him make clear and stiff contact with the pads in the drill shown in the picture. He did very well in the one-on-one drills and had some of the more memorable battles against some of the top defensive players at the camp. Zach currently holds an offer from in-state Doane and has visits/camps with Missouri Western, Lindenwood, Iowa Lineman, Augustana, Nebraska-Kearney, and several others.
Henri Supenski Henri Supenski 6'3" | 270 lbs | OL Papillion-La Vista South | 2023 State NE (2023) | Papillion-La Vista South | 6’3″ 270 lbs
Henri is a player that I believe is still being under-recruited. Supenski is a very skilled and technical offensive lineman that does everything, including the little things, very well. He keeps his feet moving, his hands and elbows tight, and great leverage. Henri plays tackle for the Titans, but projects to be an interior lineman at the next level. He’s gaining momentum with offers from Peru State and, more recently, the University of Mary. Henri will be a steal for whichever teams add this tough big guy.
Seagan Packett Seagan Packett 6'2" | 295 lbs | OL Blair | 2023 State NE (2023) | Blair | 6’2″ 295 lbs
Do NOT sleep on Blair interior lineman, Seagan Packett Seagan Packett 6'2" | 295 lbs | OL Blair | 2023 State NE . Seagan is a player that has been steadily gaining ground. Aside from being at the Iowa Western camp, I also had a chance to see him at the PRZ Prospect Tour camp in early May. Seagan can get after it in the trenches and doesn’t back down from anyone. When he sets his anchor, he uses his strong base to generate a ton of power before unleashing his powerful jab. Packett is still awaiting his first offer, but several schools have shown interest in the Bear’s OL.
Barrett Walker Barrett Walker 6'4" | 275 lbs | OL Pius X | 2023 State NE (2023) | Pius X | 6’4″ 275 lbs
Barrett is a beast, and I’m really excited to see him play for the Thunderbolts in 2022. Walker has been rising since the start of last month with offers from Peru State, Minnesota State-Mankato, Missouri Western, and Southwestern Minnesota. Tall, strong, and well-built, Barrett looks like a textbook tackle prospect that could fill in a little more. He is violent at the point of attack and can drop back and set his anchor, with very little chance of getting pushed off his feet. Barrett is a versatile big man that will also be a disruptive force on the Pius DL, where he uses his length and strength to overpower blockers. Barrett is a scary big to watch this season.
