Continue ReadingThe Huskers had a busy weekend last weekend after hosting a Friday Night Lights camp, an Individual camp, and a 7v7 camp. These three camps brought a lot of talent from inside and outside the state to Lincoln to compete. For this feature, I wanted to do a review of the different “Nebraska based” 7v7 teams. This includes school teams like Benson, Lincoln Southeast, Creighton Prep, and 7v7 teams like NELITE 7v7 and the Lincoln Redwolves.
Next up is Coach Evan’s NELITE 7v7 team. This is a team LOADED with talent from both the Omaha and Lincoln metro areas. Tons of athletes that can play on both sides of the ball. The main theme for this group is the receiving talent. The NELITE 7v7 team features players with some of the best hands in the state. Take a look at some of the players that stood out to me.
Malachi Coleman Malachi Coleman 6'5" | 195 lbs | WR Lincoln East | 2023 State NE (2023 WR/ATH) | Lincoln East | 6’5″ 185 lbs
- Malachi comes as advertised and even better if anything.
- Tall, lengthy, athletic beast with an enormous catch-radius and vices for hands.
- Malachi’s football speed is highly impressive to watch in person.
- Coleman is also a very tough pass-catcher that can hang on through contact and even dish some out.
- Overall, Malachi looked like a grown man among some of the other players. Further shows why he’s the top guy in the 2023 class.
The people who want it the most will always find a way to win 💯 @SebastianCirco @NELITE7v7_ pic.twitter.com/3jtmWb2vyU

Gio Contreras Gio Contreras 6'0" | 180 lbs | ATH Bellevue West | 2023 State NE (2023- RB/WR/DB) | Bellevue West | 6’0″ 185 lbs
- I’ve had two opportunities to watch Gio (IWCC Camp & 7v7 camp) and both times I left amazed by his athleticism and versatility.
- Gio has elite hands that make you wonder if he’s got them doused in “stick-em,” he can catch anything thrown his way.
- The Thunderbirds are going to be very creative in the ways that they can use Gio’s talents.
- Quick off the snap with lots of potential in pre-snap motion plays.
- This picture below doesn’t do justice to how high Gio elevated to make this catch. Straight-up athlete!
had a fun time at Nebraska 7v7 camp with @NELITE7v7_ going to be a good regular szn! pic.twitter.com/dkOMFCw1Z6

Sebastian Circo Sebastian Circo 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Millard North | 2025 FL (2025 – QB) | Omaha North |
- The top-ranked QB in the 2025 class, Sebastian Circo Sebastian Circo 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Millard North | 2025 FL , was lighting it up at Memorial.
- It was his first competition with NELITE but looked like he had been playing with them for a while. Lots of chemistry with his 7v7 teammates.
- Can push the deep ball very well and fit the ball into tight windows.
- Great at reading his progressions and not locking into only one target.
- He’s a very poised, young QB. Ran quick drives effectively and took command of the offense in situations where the clock was winding down.
2025 Omaha North QB Sebastian Circo (@SebastianCirco), who owns offers from Penn State and Ole Miss among others, throws a good ball. pic.twitter.com/ncxXyPSAQx

Kyrell Jordan Kyrell Jordan 5'8" | 160 lbs | WR Bellevue West | 2023 State NE (2023 – WR/DB) | Bellevue West |
- Wow!
- To elaborate, Kyrell’s speed and shiftiness are among the top across the whole state. I got a chance to see both of these at the Iowa Western camp, but seeing it during competition was something else.
- He was beating people in short routes, deep routes, he can catch and go. It was not fair in all honesty.
- Kyrell is a smooth runner that can weave in and out of traffic. He does a great job tracking and using his hands to come down with the ball.
Dude is literal electricity. ‘23 @kyrellj1 is going to be a menace to tackle going into his sr year @BellevueWestFB. Catching the ball, ‘Rell’s has confirmed hands of a true Wideout. Great in long down and distance situations when you need a tough catch. 🐆💨💨 pic.twitter.com/Gn8e8pH8bc

Araf Evans Araf Evans 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH Bellevue West | 2026 NE Jr. (2026 – WR) | Bellevue West | 5’11″ 170 lbs
- Araf is the reason why you want to get started early.
- Evans is only going to be a freshman but runs routes like a seasoned vet and can create separation like it’s his job.
- Excellent hands that come down with every ball thrown his way.
- He has good size for his age and knows how to maximize it when making tough catches. Araf does a great job extending and reaching for the ball in the air.
- Next up in the long line of ELITE Thunderbird wideouts. Watch out!
Nice throw @SebastianCirco 🔥🔥🔥 @NELITE7v7_ @BellevueWestFB @HuskerFBNation @wideouts @daboot02 @coach_frost #W4L 🦍👐🏽 pic.twitter.com/0sMp7mtoHm

Jaylen Lloyd Jaylen Lloyd 5'10" | 160 lbs | WR Omaha Westside | 2023 State NE (2023 – WR/DB) | Omaha Westside | 5’10″ 160 lbs
- The fastest player in the state continued to kill with his speed and athleticism.
- It was his first time competing with NELITE, but still put on a show and was reliable when his number was called.
- Jaylen will be sporting new digs in the fall but should be even more explosive and elusive than before.
- He is also more technical and a better route runner than you would think. Jaylen is seen as a deep threat but can also work defensive backs in short-distance routes.
Making their NELITE debut is
@OPSCHSFB
‘23 @LloydJaylen &@OPS_VikingsFB ‘25@SebastianCircoCirco showed everyone yesterday that there’s not a throw he can’t make.
Lloyd is coming off an impressive
track season & looked freakishly
athletic all day long 🐰🔀 pic.twitter.com/tv7ZXPrWxe— Nebraska Elite 7v7 (@NELITE7v7_) June 6, 2022
Donnovan Whitfield Donnovan Whitfield 6'3" | 185 lbs | DB Bellevue West | 2023 State NE (2023 – S/ATH) | Bellevue West | 6’3″ 185 lbs
- Donnovan is going to be a problem in the Thunderbird secondary.
- Whitfield is a tall, lengthy, quick, and instinctive safety that uses his skills to make smart plays on the ball.
- He racked up several interceptions at the 7v7 camp and was an elite centerfielder for the NELITE team.
- Donnovan is a very fluid player that can flip his hips and change direction in a flash.
- His size is a great asset when lining up against bigger, physical receivers/tight ends especially because Donnovan isn’t the type to take that from anyone. Instead, he embraces it and will match the energy given to him.
- DOG!!
Rising Star @Donnovan_Whit16 ‘23 had an amazing day and was all over the field. He had several picks and was a nightmare for QB’s all day long. Look for Whitfield to have a breakout season @BellevueWestFB 📈📈 pic.twitter.com/bF59EiP15c
