We continue to look at our top 10 at each position following our 2023 rankings update. Today, we move to the wide receiver position group where we’re headlined by two future Power Five talents with some strong depth behind them.
[player_tooltip player_id="87844" first="Kenny" last="Johnson"] | 6’2, 190 | Dallastown
The West Virginia commitment was in a tough battle with Penn State commitment [player_tooltip player_id="248930" first="Yazeed" last="Haynes"] for our top wide receiver spot and we mean, really tough. Ultimately, we feel Johnson is a tad more of a complete player at this point in his career and gave him the nod. The Dallastown wideout has nice size and shows off good speed, his catch radius is impressive and his ability to highpoint the football is quite strong as well.
[player_tooltip player_id="248930" first="Yazeed" last="Haynes"] | 6’1, 170 | North Penn
As said above, Haynes was strongly considered for the top wide receiver spot and he’ll have the chance to claim that spot with a strong senior season. The North Penn standout has blazing speed and recently recorded a 4.39 forty-yard dash while camping at Penn State. Add in his nice size and you have a potentially dangerous deep threat if it can consistently translate on the field. We’ll look for Haynes’s production this upcoming season to match the rise he’s had in his recruitment. A potential top-10 player in the state if he can do so.
[player_tooltip player_id="91654" first="Jayvin" last="Thompson"] | 6’2, 190 | Central Valley
The Central Valley product is a certified Group of Five prospects with quite a bit of upside. Thompson has an ideal body frame at 6-foot-2 and is a quality route runner with decent speed. He also has some pretty good length to his frame as you can see in his highlights, also a quality safety prospect. Wouldn’t rule him out possibly playing the position at the next level.
[player_tooltip player_id="357948" first="Amir" last="Jones"] | 6’2, 190 | Harrisburg
Our fourth-ranked wide receiver currently holds an offer from UConn. Jones has good size and length to his frame which benefits him on both sides of the ball. While we currently have him as a wide receiver, I believe his future could very well be on the opposite side of the ball where he was a tremendous corner for Harrisburg last season.
[player_tooltip player_id="248766" first="Keondre" last="Deshields"] | 6’4, 190 | Laurel Highlands
Our biggest wide receiver in the top five is 6-foot-4 Laurel Highlands standout [player_tooltip player_id="248766" first="Keondre" last="Deshields"] who recently received his first offer from Saint Francis. Deshields has quality speed, he won’t pull away from a lot of second and third-level defenders but his size will make him a bit tougher to bring down. He presents a tall and lengthy red zone threat as well and shows the ability to high point the football well. Despite the lack of great speed, he shows great potential as a possible possession and red zone-based receiver at the next level.
[player_tooltip player_id="357959" first="Cade" last="Christopher"] | 5’11, 170 | Northwestern Lehigh
Christopher is on the smaller side but he has terrific burst and is dangerous in the open field. His 40-yard dash time of 4.5 matches the tape. He’s ane exciting and shifty slot receiver who is going to be a dangerous player at the next level if he gets into the right offense.
[player_tooltip player_id="64017" first="Benny" last="Haselrig"] | 5’10, 170 | Hampton
Haselrig is an intriguing prospect, he has decent size and his speed is adequate. Doesn’t necessarily have the size you look for in an outside receiver and you would like to see a bit more speed for a slot receiver. Either way, Haselrig is a playmaker and does it no matter where he lines up on the field.
[player_tooltip player_id="127222" first="Zach" last="Boyd"] | 6’2, 185 | Elizabeth Forward
Boyd’s biggest asset is his size and elusiveness despite not having great speed. The Elizabeth Forward wide receiver uses his size to his advantage and he shows the ability to be elusive thanks to quality vision. He has good but not elite speed, enough to make plays happen, however. He runs quality routes as well. Solid overall prospect.
[player_tooltip player_id="91706" first="Jaymont" last="Green-Miller"] | 5’10, 165 | Sto-Rox
Another shifty slot-type wide receiver, Green-Miller is quite a fun prospect to watch on tape. He has a nice burst to his game to combine with good speed and quality route running. Thanks to that route running and speed, he’s able to create quite the separation downfield. I’ll be keeping an eye on him closely this upcoming fall.
[player_tooltip player_id="87843" first="Parker" last="Hines"] | 6’0, 185 | Central York
One thing you can’t take away from Hines is that he’s a highly productive wide receiver. Hines can play either outside or the slot thanks to his 4.5 speed and solid size. He’s a playmaker at heart and if you throw a ball in his direction, he’s reliable to catch it more so than not. Always have been a big fan of his game. Will be a really solid play at the next level.
