2023 Quarterbacks Teams Need to Watch

The Class of 2023 is loaded with elite quarterbacks. Several passers who can lead offenses at the next level, are flying under-the-radar. Today, we evaluate some of those prospects. [player_tooltip player_id="185229" first="Tyler" last="Adkins"], 6’0, 180 pounds, McCutcheon On the heels of a productive junior season, [player_tooltip player_id="185229" first="Tyler" last="Adkins"] will be looking for more next season. Last year, Adkins threw 324 passes, completing 220 of them. He racked up nearly 2,300 yards through the air, a season ago. Adkins threw an impressive 28 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions. He added one rushing touchdown, as well. [player_tooltip player_id="185229" first="Tyler" last="Adkins"] is poised for a big junior season. [player_tooltip player_id="300060" first="Carson" last="Brookbank"], 6’0, 180 pounds, Shenandoah [player_tooltip player_id="300060" first="Carson" last="Brookbank"] is a versatile prospect who can come up with a big play whenever his team needs one. The man from Middletown is a menace for his opponents. Brookbank is a dual-threat quarterback who runs read-option and run-pass-option plays at a high level. Brookbank displays great composure. He can make throws under pressure, and he does well to navigate the pocket and extend plays to evade pressure. The right-hander is accurate. Between his throwing and running ability, Brookbank finds ways to give his team a spark. Defensively, Brookbank is a solid safety. He can jump routes, and he can come down and play the run. [player_tooltip player_id="185517" first="Kaiden" last="Underwood"], 6’2, 170 pounds, Crawfordsville [player_tooltip player_id="185517" first="Kaiden" last="Underwood"] has shown a lot of upside and room for growth. Heading into his senior season, he is a prospect that can put it all together and have a major breakout season. Last year, Underwood completed 45 of his 100 pass attempts. In doing so, he collected 391 passing yards. Underwood threw three touchdowns and nine interceptions. If he can work on that area of his game, he will solidify himself as an elite quarterback prospect. Underwood added one rushing touchdown in 2021. He can also help the team as a punter. He punted a dozen times last season for 320 yards. He pinned the opponent inside their own 20-yard line on two occasions. Look for [player_tooltip player_id="185517" first="Kaiden" last="Underwood"] to take a massive step forward as a senior. [player_tooltip player_id="107258" first="Christian" last="Johnson"], 6’0, 195 pounds, Parke Heritage As a junior, [player_tooltip player_id="107258" first="Christian" last="Johnson"] accomplished feats that are scarcely believable. Even more difficult to comprehend is that he still has another year of high school football to reach new heights. Johnson completed nearly two-thirds of his passes last season for an otherworldly 3,160 yards. His 44 touchdown passes will make you do a double-take when looking at the stat sheet. Johnson takes delicate care of the football, as evidenced by the fact that he only threw half-a-dozen interceptions a season ago with a touchdown-to-interception ratio of better than seven to one. He added 520 rushing yards on 116 carries with 10 touchdowns. Johnson is impactful on the defensive side of the ball, as well. Last year, he compiled 33 tackles with one quarterback hurry. Add in the one interception, two passes defensed and one fumble recovery that Johnson had, and it becomes even easier to see why he is a prospect that team’s need to have on their radars. [player_tooltip player_id="185194" first="Riley" last="Buroff"], 6’4, 175 pounds, Churubusco [player_tooltip player_id="185194" first="Riley" last="Buroff"] is a right-hander who throws a great deep ball. He can lead the receiver and put the ball where only his guy is able to come up with it. Buroff has solid accuracy. He can be an effective running option, as well. He can pick up yardage on the ground, but he also uses his legs to extend plays. In his junior season, Buroff threw for eight touchdowns and five interceptions. [player_tooltip player_id="185194" first="Riley" last="Buroff"] has laid the foundation for a big senior season. He will be a prospect to watch this year.
