With April showers come May football. Spring football practice and games are blooming in the coming weeks. Seems like no matter the time of year it’s football season in Louisiana. Players and teams are gearing up for spring practice and games but the endgame is to be still playing in December and playing on the “Dome”. And one of those times primed for a run at the Dome are the East Ascension Spartans. They are always well-coached, their teams play hard, they’re physical, big strong, and fast. The Spartans have everything it takes to make a deep playoff run with a chance at making it to the dome.

Turner and the Spartans are one of those area teams that are always in the mix. They’re well-coached, athletic and disciplined as team and one of those keys players for EA this year will be Tyvon Turner. Turner is an absolute playmaker on the backend for the Spartans defense accounting 36 tackles, 11 TFL, and 1 sack. He has a nose for the ball and the wheels to make it to the ball from sideline to sideline… See ball, hit ball when #20 is in the game. This year we are expecting big things from the vaulted Spartan defense because of Turner on the hash.
Chantz Banks #55
East Ascension High School
OL / DL
6’3”, 285 lbs.

Games are won at the line of scrimmage or point of contact and one of the guys dominating at the point of contact is Chantz Banks. He is big, physical, good with his hands, has good feet and plays until the whistle blows. When asked about his goals he stated that he wants to help take his team to the dome, leave with a ring… And in honestly that’s the dream of ever football player is to win that last game, that last game for a ‘Chip. Banks also saw snaps on the defensive side of the ball, lining up as DT, but primarily took snaps on the offensive line his more natural position at Guard. EA’s offensive will be fun to watch this year will players like #55 leading the way for the talented offensive weapons for the Spartans this fall.
Walter Samuel #22

When coaches say he can break it at any moment, this is how I would describe Walter Samuels game film. He will make defensive coordinators and opposing fans held their breath whenever he touches the ball. Samuel is explosive, and absolutely dynamic playmaker for the Spartans. Samuel gained over 800 yards rushing and 10 TD’s for EA during the 2021 season helping to lead them to 2nd Round of the playoffs and earning All-District Honors and LCFA All-State Honors and a WAFB Sportline Player of the Week Award as well. When asked about memorable games last year Walter humbly mentioned big games against Warren Eastern, Brother Martin, and Woodlawn. It will be fun to watch #22 suit up for the Spartans this year and the plays he will make for that high-powered offense.
