Because of this, teams have been broken down into different regions, especially due to the large volume of schools in the area. Nevertheless, the talent creates great match ups, and solid prospects each season. This does not come in a specific shape or size either, as this tends to occur at every position in the Charlotte area. Below, we have listed some of our favorite players within the Southern Mecklenburg region, who we feel are very worth tracking and looking forward to watching next season.
Ardrey Kell- Joshua Switzer (DB)
In a region with plenty of talented receivers and DB’s, having a solid DB is essential. Switzer just happens to be that player for Kell, and we fully expect him to return to form next year for his team. Last season, he proved to be able to cause turnovers, and even create big stops with sacks when his number was called. Each of these things are due to his fluid movement skills, and the way that he is not afraid to play physically when making tackles, and sticking his nose in the pile. We are also impressed by his overall movement skills, as he not only is quick, but he flips his hips, and is able to maintain a crossover run very well. Look for all of these skills to translate into a well rounded DB once he works on the technicality of his craft.
Berry Tech- Demetrius Hargroves (QB)
While Hargroves has plenty to work on when it comes to his footwork and overall ball placement, we still find him to be one of the more talented, and up-and-coming QB’s in his region. This is largely due to the way that he uses his arm strength to drive the football at multiple points of the field, and because he gets the ball out quickly, and in a timely manner when going through his reads. He may not be the biggest prospect, but the way that he sees the field helps him in various ways, especially as he creates space, or throws on the run. Next season, outside of adding weight to his frame, we would like to see him improve in his overall mechanics, and footwork.
Harding University- Keyshawn Jackson (DB)
Last season, Jackson put up a great amount of production for his team, including 40 tackles, 2 interceptions, and even more pressured situations. Not only do we expect great production out of him next year due to this showcase, but we expect him to receive more attention from colleges due to this as well. When watching his film, Jackson does a good job of using his frame, and ability to change direction quickly to his advantage. This footwork, and quick burst consistently puts him in a good place to make plays on the ball, and good tackles when needed.
Myers Park- Tavion Neal (RB)
Not only do we believe that Neal will have a great season next year, but we believe that he will continue to climb up the charts of popularity once his name gets out there a bit more. Not only is he a very twitchy, and quick back with the ball in his hands, but he plays with good footwork, change of direction, and vision of the line of scrimmage. Neal also plays very light on his feet, and he also runs at a good pad level, which we are excited to see how people take note of next year.
Olympic- Eliyt Nairne Eliyt Nairne 6'3" | 255 lbs | DL Olympic | 2023 State NC (DL)
When evaluating each player on this list, Nairne happened to be one of our favorite prospects to watch. Not only does he have a good frame, and size for his age, but he plays with a great motor, and speed off the ball. This allows him to not only make tackles at the line of scrimmage or in the backfield, but within pursuit as well. Nairne also does a good job of playing with physicality, which can be seen in the ways that he is consistently pressuring and collapsing the pocket, making it very hard for ball carriers and passers to maintain a certain level of production. With this, it can also be seen that he dips, and rips incredibly well, which will certainly pay off for him in the future.
South Mecklenburg- Bishop Boswell (WR)
When watching Boswell, it is evident that he not only plays at a good frame, but he has decent growth potential moving forward. This allows him to not only separate well on routes, but to use his length and frame to his advantage in jump ball situations. Outside of this, Boswell also has had success running routes with his quick feet, especially when stacking defenders on deep, and intermediate routes. Going into next season, we think that he will have a breakout year, and any work he does with false steps, transitions with his routes, and catching the ball cleanly at various angles, will all go a long way for him.
