New players emerged in the latest update, and plenty of Georgia tight ends can be found towards the top of the latest rankings. Here are some tight ends who have seen their stock rise in recent weeks and in the latest 2024 Prep Redzone Georgia Rankings.
Landen Thomas Landen Thomas 6'4" | 210 lbs | TE Colquitt County | 2024 State GA – Colquitt County
One of the top 2024 playmakers in South Georgia, sophomore tight end Landen Thomas Landen Thomas 6'4" | 210 lbs | TE Colquitt County | 2024 State GA is one of the top tight end prospects in the South with a great frame at 6-foot-4 210-pounds. Thomas is a mismatch problem for defenses due to his size and ability to run for his size. He’s a big-bodied pass catcher who is only scratching the surface of his potential. He’s a true modern-day tight end who excels in the passing game as a strong pass-catcher who knows how to run and pick up yards after the catch. He plays the ball like a receiver and shows strong hands when snatching the ball away from defenders. Thomas caught only 31 passes so fall, but they’ve went for 516 yards and seven touchdowns, proving he’s a big-play threat on any particular play. He’s also an impact blocker on the edge and will continue to add more weight and muscle over the next few years. The Moultrie native is now ranked as the No. 1 TE and the No. 10 overall prospect in Georgia in the latest 2024 Rankings. He holds offers from Georgia, Florida State, Ohio State, among others.
Walter Matthews Walter Matthews 6'7" | 245 lbs | TE Hiram | 2024 State GA – Hiram
Ranked as the new No. 2 TE prospect and the No. 18 overall prospect in Georgia, Matthews is another big-bodied receiver with plenty of length at 6-foot-7 245-pounds. He’s a massive target from a physical standpoint, and his natural athleticism makes him a promising tight end prospect and one of the best in the peach state. He’s a fluid route-runner for his size and he has no problem bringing down a tough catch. He can make plays in the middle of the field and has too much length and size for the average linebacker to defend in coverage. He has big, strong hands, and he should see more passes come his way as a senior in 2022. He’s finally getting some buzz on the recruiting trail, and he’s earned recent offers from Southern Cal, West Virginia, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, among others. Last fall, Matthews only caught 12 balls, but they went for 235 yards and two touchdowns.
Martavious Collins Martavious Collins 6'4" | 235 lbs | TE Rome | 2024 State GA – Rome
Another great-looking TE prospect with a promising frame and athleticism at 6-foot-3 220-pounds, Collins already looks like a D1 player and showed off his talent as a pass catcher throughout the 2021 season. As a sophomore last year, Collins, like Matthews, didn’t exactly light up the state sheet, but he was a reliable option in the passing game, catching 21passes for 268 yards and one touchdown. He’s a big target who can be a mismatch against smaller defenders, and while he may not out-run anyone, he can be very tough to bring down by just one defender. He knows how to rumble down the field and keep his balance for yards after the catch. He has a long frame that allows him to be an impact blocker on the edge and a weapon in the red-zone, and that has led to an offers from Alabama, Tennessee, Ohio State, among others. His stock continues to rise, and he’s without a doubt one of the top tight end prospect in Georgia for the 2024 class. Prep Redzone has him ranked as the No. 3 TE and the No. 20 prospect in Georgia in the newest rankings.
Caleb Odom Caleb Odom 6'5" | 205 lbs | TE Villa Rica | 2024 State GA – Villa Rica
The No. 4 tight end prospect in Georgia is another West Georgia standout who can dominate both on the gridiron, and on the basketball court. Like the rest of the tight ends in this group, Odom is a big target at 6-foot-5 205-pounds who can also split out and play receiver. His height and length allow him to excel in jump-ball situations, making him a dangerous weapon in the redzone. He uses his size and length to his advantage and can dominate older defenders who happen to be smaller than he is. Like most young tight ends, he can still develop and work on his overall route-running, but he had great hands and knows how to come down with the football. He’s also a long strider who can pick up big yards in a hurry. He doesn’t look like your average sophomore pass catcher, and it’s led to early offers from Ole Miss, Auburn, Boston College, among others.
