The third Oklahoma Showcase camp took place over the weekend at the Titan Sports Complex and we saw plenty of talent throughout the afternoon. Prospects from six different states participated in the event and we saw some great competition. Over the next few days, we’ll have several articles talking about some of the prospects that we saw but in this post, it’s all about the big guys up front. We’re putting a spotlight on the best offensive linemen from Saturday’s event.
Ace Hodges – 2024 – Casady (MVP)
Before we get into the breakdown, this is somewhat of an announcement as 2024 offensive lineman Ace Hodges has transferred from OCS to Casady. Hodges has been at the top of our offensive lineman charts since we started doing the 2024 rankings and he performed like that on Saturday. What was great to see was not only was he getting as many reps on offense as possible but he was going over to the defensive side of the ball and putting work in there. Hodges continued to excel in the camp setting and you can see that he’s just getting better and better in terms of technique. He earned his spot on this list and it’ll be interesting to see how he looks this fall with the Cyclones.
Darian Melendez Darian Melendez 6'5" | 315 lbs | OL Booker T. Washington | 2024 State OK – 2024 – Booker T Washington
The two things that have really limited Booker T Washington over the last few seasons has been the numbers on the roster and overall size. They have a ton of skill talent but you look at the line of scrimmage and they’ve been lacking size there. That isn’t the case with our next prospect as Hornet 2024 offensive lineman Darian Melendez Darian Melendez 6'5" | 315 lbs | OL Booker T. Washington | 2024 State OK definitely passes the eye test and then he did fairly well during the competition part of the camp. Melendez is almost 6’5 and moves pretty well for his size. One thing that stood out to us while watching him was he took the coaching that he was getting and he used it to get better during the next rep. If Booker T Washington can get a few more guys like Melendez, they’ll be a real problem for 6A-2 this fall.
Evan Sullivan Evan Sullivan 6'0" | 260 lbs | OL Enid | 2023 State OK – 2023 – Enid
It’s awesome to see so many prospects that return to our camps and it’s even better to see a prospect improve from the first camp to the next. That’s the case with Enid 2023 offensive lineman Evan Sullivan Evan Sullivan 6'0" | 260 lbs | OL Enid | 2023 State OK . He attended our camp back in January and also on Saturday. And when we saw him on Saturday, he was absolutely dominant every time I had a chance to see him during 1 on1’s. And the position coaches even made note of the improvement he’s shown since the camp in January. Sullivan doesn’t have the measurables that some of the other top interior offensive line prospects have but that didn’t really matter on Saturday. It also didn’t matter who he was going up against, Sullivan used his hands incredibly well and kept his leverage and rarely got pushed back.
Kenny Wermy Kenny Wermy 6'5" | 295 lbs | OL Cache | 2023 State OK – 2023 – Cache
At the beginning of the camp, I made the statement that offers would be earned on Saturday and that’s exactly what we have here. Cache 2023 lineman Kenny Wermy Kenny Wermy 6'5" | 295 lbs | OL Cache | 2023 State OK has already been established by us as one of the top guys at his position in this class. And Wermy once again came and camped with us after dominating the January camp. This time around, he didn’t take home MVP honors, but he did earn an offer from UCO. Wermy was once again one of the more dominant tackles that we saw on Saturday. He definitely had some familiarity with the coaching as he’s been training with Trench Mafia and that’s who was leading the offensive linemen. UCO made a good decision offering one of the top guys in the class.
Luke Wells – 2023 – Community Christian
Similar to Evan Sullivan Evan Sullivan 6'0" | 260 lbs | OL Enid | 2023 State OK , some of the same things can be said about Community Christian 2023 OL Luke Wells. The CCS senior-to-be is definitely an undersized offensive lineman but size didn’t matter at all when he was going up against bigger defensive linemen. Wells did a great job of using his opponent’s momentum against him. And just like with Sullivan, Wells was at his best with the point of attack where he would lock onto a defender and take them out of the play completely. Similar to Sullivan, Wells would project to more of an interior lineman because of the size but the skills are there. Wells definitely earned his spot on this list with his performance on Saturday and he’s going to be an “under the radar” name to watch this fall.
