New players emerged in the latest update, and we are happy to rank a number of different “under the radar” defensive linemen in the Atlanta and metro area. Here are some new defensive line additions to the latest 2023 Prep Redzone Georgia Rankings.
Stephen Johnson Stephen Johnson 6'4" | 310 lbs | DL Whitewater | 2023 State GA – Whitewater
The massive 6-foot4 315-pounder from Fayetteville is one of the more “under the radar” defensive tackle prospects from the Atlanta area and could see some serious interest coming his way soon from D1 schools. A quick, powerful interior lineman, he possesses D1 size and has the film to back up his potential. He plays with good leverage and does a nice job of using his strong hands to get off blocks. When he does, he knows how to attack the quarterback and make a play on the ball. He also showed that he can trick the quarterback and make a play on the ball against a screen play. As a junior last fall, Johnson made 65 tackles from his interior position, and helped lead the Whitewater defense to a strong season. He holds an offer from the in-state Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and more could be on the way.
Malik Tullis Malik Tullis 6'0" | 260 lbs | DL Creekside | 2023 State GA – Creekside
Another standout defender from an incredible Creekside defense last fall, Tullis was a force to deal with and lived in the backfield as a junior. His stats speak for themselves and are a big reason why he was a new addition to the Prep Redzone Rankings. The Eastern Michigan commitment is on the shorter side at 6-foot-0, but he’s thick and strong at 260-pounds. He’s also quick for his size and has no problem running down the ball carrier. He’s smart and instinctive, and he brings some physicality to the position as well. He put up some great numbers last year on a loaded defense, making 67 tackles, 7 TFLs, and 8.5 sacks. He brings some versatility as well as he can move outside and play on the EDGE. He’s one of the best in that area of Atlanta, and he’s more than deserving to be in the Prep Redzone Rankings.
William Hodges William Hodges 6'3" | 220 lbs | DL Denmark | 2023 State GA – Denmark
North of Atlanta in Alpharetta is where you’ll find another stout “under the radar” defender. Hodges is a versatile linebacker who can make an impact off the edge as a pass rusher or in coverage. He’s tough, physical, and was one of the most productive linebackers in his region last year. As a junior for a very good Denmark Danes defense, Hodges made 41 tackles, 15 TFLs, and and 10 sacks. He has a knack for making plays in the backfield and he can make a drive-killing stop on any particular play. He also caused one fumble and returned one interception back for a touchdown. He does a great job of getting up thee field early in the play and consistently gets off blocks in order to get to the ball carrier. He’s well coached and proved it last year on film. He’s one of the top returning defenders in all of Forsyth County, and he’s bound for a gigantic senior season this fall.
Kenyon Partridge Kenyon Partridge 6'3" | 230 lbs | DL Columbia | 2023 State GA – Columbia
A game-wrecking defensive end out of Decatur, Partidge is a two-way standout with great short-area quickness and get off at 6-foot-3 230-pounds. He’s lightning quick off the edge and knows how to deliver a big hit on the quarterback. He uses his speed around the edge against slower tackles, but he’s strong enough to bully opposing linemen as well. He does a great job of getting his hands to the ball and knocking it away, forcing a turnover. Partridge dominated last fall as a junior, making 75 tackles, 21 TFLs, and 11.5 sacks. He was a true playmaker on defense and there weren’t many tackles on the schedule who could slow him down. He earned his first offer recently from UNC Charlotte, and it likely won’t be his last.
