As most know player of the year awards have a lot to do with a team’s success as well as the individual. Have a look at some of 5A’s best and who projects as the leading candidates for Oregon POY honors on offense and defense. OFFENSE 1.[player_tooltip player_id="207256" first="Tyler" last="Konold"] RB Canby 24’- Konold led 5A Oregon in multiple categories as a sophomore, racking up 1st team all-state honors. He was one of the top backs in the state `regardless of classification, averaging 11.5 per rush (1,412 yards, 123 carries). Look for head coach Jimmy Joyce, one of the state’s best play callers, to use him wisely. 2.[player_tooltip player_id="110182" first="Chip" last="Allers"] RB/LB Summit 23’ - Allers projects on the defensive side of the ball and will have a handful of division 1 offers. That said (if) they give him the ball 20 times a game he will rush for 200+ yards and 3 TDs or more every contest. 3.[player_tooltip player_id="205814" first="Jackson" last="Pfeifer"] RB Silverton 23’- Pfeifer will be a favorite for 5A conference and state POY honors having a phenomenal off season thus far. The Foxes return as the reigning state champs which helps as it relates to the accolades. He accounted for 826 total yards and 14 TDs, averaging 8.4 yards per carry, for a team that spread the ball around. 4.[player_tooltip player_id="110176" first="Demarcus" last="Houston"] ATH West Albany 23’- I’ve become a big advocate of Houston the more I watch him on film. He most likely projects defensively at the collegiate level but he is equally talented at WR where it will take a double team to contain him. 5.[player_tooltip player_id="110201" first="Hogan" last="Carmichael"] QB Summit 23’- The 6-5 Carmichael could very well end up with multiple division 1 offers. He’s an outstanding overall athlete and should dominate 5A competition. He helped his team to a quarterfinal appearance at the 6A level last season, hitting on 62% of his passes while accounting for 18 TDs (13 passing/2 INTs) and 5 rushing TDs (6.5 YPC). 6.[player_tooltip player_id="271347" first="Cooper" last="Hiday"] WR Wilsonville 23’ - One of the more exciting athletes in the state when in space. He had a phenomenal junior campaign, averaging 26.3 yards per reception, on 31 catches with 9 TDs. 7.[player_tooltip player_id="152353" first="Caden" last="Negra"] WR Ashland 24’- Negra started as a freshman and is one of the top WR’s in the state regardless of classification. It will come down to whether or not his supporting cast comes to play. He’s fortunate to have one of Oregon’s top 25’s at QB in [player_tooltip player_id="285886" first="JoJo" last="Harrower"] 8.[player_tooltip player_id="278368" first="Charlie" last="Crowell"] TE Summit 24’- Tight end’s rarely rack up league or state MVP honors, but the Storm could target the 6-6 Crowell 10 times a game and there isn’t much opponents could do about it. He is physically dominant and will be tough for anyone to stop at the 5A level. 9.[player_tooltip player_id="147249" first="Chase" last="Nelson"] QB Central 23’- Without the 6-4 220-pound Nelson, Central might not have won a game last season. His 14 TDs/6 INTs helped the Panthers get a few wins as they have struggled in recent years. 10.[player_tooltip player_id="270089" first="Jeremiah" last="Schwartz"] WR Ridgeview 23’- Not a lot of people know about Schwartz playing 5A ball out in Central Oregon, but he projects as a 1st team all-state guy and should be in the mix for conference POY honors as well. 11.[player_tooltip player_id="285870" first="Jesaun" last="Gonzalez"] Crater 25’- Look for Gonzalez to be one of Oregon’s breakout players of the year. Even as a Sophomore he should be in the mix for conference POY accolades and listed among the best for 2025. 12.[player_tooltip player_id="207259" first="Kyrin" last="Fuimaono"] QB Mckay 24’- Fuimaono started as a freshman and put-up good numbers. Something rare for any young athlete. The Royal Scots have struggled over the years as a team, so it will come down to how they fare there.
