Not only do they have a high level of talent, but some of them have a high trajectory as well. Because of this, we have taken notice of them, even if they have not received the attention, or credit that they deserve. Below, we have included a few backs who have stood out among many, who we also think are worth checking out whenever you have a chance.
Josiah Mclaurin- Hobbton
Not only does Mclaurin play above his size, but he does a great job of highpointing the football, and beating defenders to the ball when it is in the air. He’s a competitive player, and you can see it in the way he runs routes, and gets in and out of his breaks, beating defenders, and making plays when the ball reaches his hands. Mclaurin also turns the corner very well, and his footwork is decent for his age. Moving forward, we would like to see him improve in his overall route running, but he still does a good job of stacking defenders, and beating them on short routes. He also runs with the good burst, and overall speed, that allows him to shake would-be tacklers, and make plays with ease. Next season, expect him to be a bit more polished, which will likely attract college coaches.
Izay Bridges- Shelby
Even though Bridges may not be the biggest receiver, he is quick, and light on his feet. His frame may also be skinny and thin, but he does a good job of maneuvering through tackles and shaking defenders before contact. In addition to this, even though his frame is a concern moving into the future, we do believe that he is good enough to receive small scholarship offers going into the next level. Bridges stacks defenders well, and uses his speed to get open on deep routes efficiently. We would like to see him run more efficient short and intermediate routes, but his explosion when the ball is in his hands is undeniable. His twitch is hard to come across, and we think that it will take him to great heights next season.
Sergio Castellon- Panther Creek
Out of all the players on this list, Castellon tends to be the best route runner. Not only does he separate well from defenders, but he does a good job of getting in and out of his breaks. In addition to this he stacks well upon his release, and he uses his strength, frame, and leverage to his advantage in ways that will translate going into the next level. Currently, this allows him to gain more separation to catch the football, allowing him to make great plays after the catch. Some of our only knocks on him is the fact that he can be a tad slow at times, and stiff in his movements. Regardless, he plays technically sound, and appears to have a high-upside, and a bright future ahead of him. Our advice to his high school is to continue to feed him the football, as he is shifty, and twitchy enough to make great plays before, and after the catch.
Terrell Anderson Terrell Anderson 6'3" | 185 lbs | WR Grimsley | 2024 State NC – Grimsley
Out of all the players on this list, we are most excited about Anderson, and his upside moving into next season. Not only does he have great length in frame, but he gets in and out of his breaks efficiently, making it hard for defenders to stop him when the ball is in his hands. This is largely due to the fact that he plays with a good burst, and speed after the catch, resulting in touchdowns, and great gains on the ground. Anderson is also efficient in deep routes, and intermediate routes, but we would like to see him stack defenders more smoothly, and get off of the ball more technically sound when in man coverage. Going into next season, we expect to see him improve in his use of hands, and how he drops his hips when breaking down.
