<em>Breaking down the film of rising 2024 LBs in PrepRedzone’s latest <a href="https://prepredzone.com/washington/rankings/2024-rankings/">Washington 2024 Player Rankings</a>. [player_tooltip player_id="158406" first="Julius" last="Leapai"] has potential to be one of the most productive LBs in Washington in the fall and [player_tooltip player_id="115348" first="Adrian" last="Shields"] has shown a high-level OLB skillset early in his high school career. </em>
<b>[player_tooltip player_id="158406" first="Julius" last="Leapai"]- LB, Newport </b>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">Leapai was a highly productive ILB for Newport last season totaling 70 tackles and 12 TFLs. He’s an effective interior blitzer that likes to get downhill and make plays behind the LOS. He shows instincts and IQ diagnosing plays and a quick trigger reacting to the ball. He’s physical shedding blocks and does a good job sifting through blockers and locating ball-carriers. Leapai should continue to be a disruptive force on the front seven next season.</span>

<span style="font-weight: 400;">Scanlan is a versatile defender that lined up at OLB and ILB as a sophomore. He’s a rangy athlete at 6’2”/215 with the speed and lateral agility to tackle sideline-to-sideline. He’s strong and powerful at the POA using his length and reach to keep blocks from getting into his frame. He can set the edge from his OLB spot and make tackles in space. Scanlan presents upside in his size, athleticism, and versatility. </span>

<span style="font-weight: 400;">Shields is a multidimensional 3-4 OLB. He’s an effective pass rusher off the edge that plays fast and physical at the LOS. He shows athleticism and versatility playing off-ball in space. He’s strong setting the edge in the run game and stays square closing space to protect the cutback lane. Shields is an underrated prospect with a unique OLB skillset.</span>

<span style="font-weight: 400;">Time continues to show growth and development at his LB position. He’s an aggressive downhill hitter that attacks the hole hard. He gets off blocks in a hurry and does a good job playing with his eyes and locating the ball. He shows short-area burst and quickness operating in tight spaces. Time has the potential to continue to climb the LB ranks in Washington over the next two seasons. </span>

<span style="font-weight: 400;">Johnston flashed underrated talent and physicality from his ILB spot as a sophomore. He shows athleticism covering middle zone and is a reliable tackler in space. He’s active in the run game filling holes aggressively and tracking ball-carriers out wide. He plays a little high and would like to see him play with more consistent pad level heading into next season. He’s efficient with his angles in pursuit and a violent hitter at the POA. </span>
