It’s a classification made up of smaller schools, but that didn’t stop them from airing out the ball to some playmaking wideouts.
Here were some of the top producing receivers in 2A from the 2024 class…
Keshawn Weathers – Towers
A impressive two-way athlete, the Decatur native from metro-Atlanta has had a breakout sophomore season this fall, making giant plays on both sides of the ball. Always one of the top athletes on the field, Weathers is a quick, twitchy 6-foot-0 170-pounder with big-play ability. During the regular season, Weathers was his best as a pass catcher as he hauled in 57 balls for 831 yards and 4 touchdowns. He’s also added 155 rushing yards and one more touchdown. He’s also an excellent, physical defensive back on defense. He shows quick feet, great ball skills, and could see some college interest come his way this offseason. He has some of the best ball skills in the are and led his region in receiving. He was also 2nd in Class AA in receiving. Defensively, he made 4 INTs and broke up 8 more passes.
Jacaree Washington – Vidalia
One of the most productive receivers in all of 2A last fall, Washington is a big-time wideout with plenty of size and playmaking ability. The small-town receiver stands at 6-foot-1 195-pounds and was extremely reliable as a pass-catcher last fall. He runs well for his size, can get open on his own, and knows how to pick up yards after the catch. He uses his size to his advantage over smaller defenders and was a go-to option for the Indians throughout the season. The under the radar receiver caught 45 passes last fall for 688 yards, which was 2nd among sophomores in 2A. He also found the end-zone five times last year, but should see those number improve as a junior. Washington’s best game of the season came in a close loss to Toombs County where he caught 10 passes for 142 yards.
Jaden Baugh – Columbia
One of the top two-way players in the Atlanta area, Baugh is a quick, elusive athlete with exceptional ball skills. One of the top young 2024 athletes across the state, Baugh made a big impact on both sides of the ball last year, and stood out just about every Friday night at receiver. The 6-foot-0 190-pounder runs well, can create separation, and makes catching the ball look easy. He’s a downfield threat, he can make plays in the screen game, and his ball skills are some of the best across the 2A classification. As a sophomore last fall, Baugh proved to be one of the best overall athletes in his region, catching 26 passes for an impressive 531 yards (20.4 yards per reception) and 5 touchdowns. He might be a defensive back in college, but he’s a true weapon right now at receiver. Look for him to get the ball in his hands more often next fall as a junior.
Antonio Barron – Vidalia
Another offensive playmaker from from Vidalia, Barron is a young sophomore who can make an impact in multiple ways offensively. Whether he’s lining up in the backfield, in the slot, or on the outside, Barron always found a way to make a play when he has the ball. The 5-foot-10 180-pounder is quick, elusive, and was consistently one of the better athletes on the field. The two-way standout can be tough to handle with the ball in his hands and showed reliable hands as a receiver all season. The South Georgia athlete caught 43 passes last fall for 506 yards and 4 touchdowns. Look for those numbers to only increase next season as a junior.
