Last season we saw some of the state’s QBs show the ability to shred defenses with their arm, and many with their feet. Here is a list of the state’s top Dual Threat QBs. These aren’t merely Wildcat QBs who are truly RBs, but playing in a system that maximizes their talent. These are true passers who have the ability to kill a defense both ways. [caption id="attachment_315603" align="alignnone" width="300"] Photo: Prep Redzone[/caption] [player_tooltip player_id="246754" first="Aiden" last="Dixon"] | 5’11’’ 185 lbs | Fallston High School | Class of 2023 Dixon is the 3rd Ranked QB in the state. His last season stats were so dominant that he tops the list for both passing QBs and Dual Threats (See Returning Passing Leaders). He was the Player of the Year in 1A / 2A and 1st Team All County. He accounted for a total of 3,896 yards offensively. 2,549 of those yards were from passing and 1,347 of those yards came on the ground for the junior QB. [player_tooltip player_id="246840" first="Kendell" last="Anderson"] | 6’3’’ 185 lbs | Montgomery Blair High School | Class of 2023 Anderson, the 2nd ranked QB in the state of Maryland, was named All County First Team QB and All Met. He finished with a total of 2,581 yards, which 2,277 of those yards came by the air, and 304 yards came by him using his feet. Anderson is receiving interest from New Hampshire, Monmouth, and Towson, [player_tooltip player_id="180893" first="Kevin" last="O’Connor"] | 6’4’’ 220 lbs | Easton High School | Class of 2023 O’Connor may play between Linebacker and Defensive End at the next level, but was also a dominant QB this past season. He earned All State honors, 1st Team All Conference as a Defensive End, 2nd Team All Conference as a Quarterback, and was also named 1st Team North Bayside All Conference for Basketball this winter. He totaled 2,523 yards on offense, threw for 1,869 yards, and ran for 654 yards. He holds offers from Maryland, Navy, Virginia Tech, Army, Princeton, and Old Dominion. [player_tooltip player_id="90665" first="Ashton" last="Gaddis"] | 6’2’’ 230 lbs | Poolesville High School | Class of 2023 Gaddis is listed as the 7th ranked QB in the state. He was named 1st Team All MoCo Quarterback. The three sport athlete, who also excels in Lacrosse and Wrestling, was responsible for 2,057 total yards of offense. He threw for 1,507 passing yards and ran for 550 yards on the ground. [player_tooltip player_id="249111" first="Jayden" last="Moore"] | 5’11’’ 175 lbs | Loyola Blakefield | Class of 2024 Moore played multiple positions within the Don’s offense. He was one of the few athletes in the state who made an impact passing, rushing, and receiving. He tallied 1,627 total yards on offense, throwing for 650 yards, rushing for 418 yards, and receiving 559 yards. In only his sophomore season, he has begun to make an impact similar to a familiar former Loyola Blakefield star and current Duke QB, Jordan Moore. Moore already has offers from Duke, Liberty, and Wake Forest. [player_tooltip player_id="209693" first="Rhys" last="Staley"] | 6’1’’ 195 lbs | St. James School | Class of 2023 Staley, the 4th ranked QB in the state, racked up numerous accolades in the Washington County area. He was named WCAA Offensive Player Of the Year, WCAA Top Quarterback, First Team WCAA All County, led the school to a 7-1 record, and the 2021 MAC Championship. In only 8 games, he totaled 1,397 yards of offense, and 20 total touchdowns. 1,155 of those yards and 15 touchdowns came by passing, while the other 242 yards and 5 touchdowns came from Staley’s legs. [player_tooltip player_id="90676" first="Devin" last="Roche"] from Dunbar HS in Baltimore and Jeremiah Green from DuVal HS are also 2 guys that are worth noting. Roche accounted for 2,166 total yards, 526 passing yards, and 1,597 rushing yards in leading the Poets to a 1A State Title. Green was responsible for 1,886 of DuVal’s total offense by running for 1,004 yards, and throwing for 882 yards. However, both of these exceptional athletes are more so RBs that can throw more than QBs that can run. Nevertheless, they were equally as lethal for opposing defenses.
