This is due to the fact that their developmental ability is very fun to track and it is almost easier for star running backs to stand out at a young age. In addition to this, even the players that got reps as freshmen and sophomores have plenty of room for development and growth, and we want to be able to see this out. Below we made a list of a few running backs within the 2024 class that we feel are trending upwards, feel free to take a look at them whenever you have a moment
Ahmari Douglas- Long County
While Douglas is a bit raw, his speed is undeniable. His burst through the hole allows him to separate from would-be tacklers, further putting him in a good place to gain yards on the ground. He also appears to have good vision with the football in his hands, but we would like to see him run at a better pad level. Douglas also appears to have strong legs, as he does a good job of running through tacklers. Something we also like about his game is his ability to finish plays, and his short-area quickness that helps him to gain quick yards. Ultimately, Douglas is an interesting player to track, so it will be fun to see what happens with him as he develops.
Christian Johnson- Pace Academy
It already appears as if Johnson has the frame, and length to play the running back position. Because of this, he runs through defenders pretty easily, and he manages to do so while balanced on his feet. He may not have the quickest feet in the world, but his feet are quick enough to get him past the second level when needed. Johnson also runs behind his pads very well and does a good job of protecting the football from defenders. In addition to this, we like his burst out of his stance, and he does a good job of understanding leverage. Next season will be fun to see how he develops into his frame even more, and his ability to understand the defenses in which he plays against.
Joshua Adams- Bethlehem Christian
Adams may not be the most fluid runner of the group, but he definitely has a bit of explosiveness to his lower body. Adams also runs with good balance, and reads his blockers very well, especially at the second level. His vision is a bit lacking, but his quick feet helps buy him out of trouble that he may see at the line. He also appears to be a very strong runner, using his weight, and his strength to his ability. We also love the way that Adams is able to run behind his pads and shoulder the burden of his offense. Look for him to continue to do this next season.
Micah Welch- Baldwin
There’s plenty like about Welch when you cut on his fill. Not only is he quick on his feet, but he gets in and out of his breaks very cleanly. He also does a good job of running through the second level and making players miss as,. We do question his size and frame, but we also understand that he can develop into this in the future and will able to add weight as well. Welch also appears to run behind his pads, and he does a good job of catching the ball out of the backfield, which puts the defense off balance. We also love the way he accelerates and explodes through the hole and around the corner. Going into next season, he will be an interesting player to track moving forward, so you won’t want to miss out.
