Creed Chavez, St. Michael’s: During a recent 7×7 jamboree, Chavez impressed us with his high football IQ. He recognized formations immediately and got teammates lined up properly. Definitely a future coach. We believe Chavez will parlay that knowledge into a special senior season for St. Michael’s as the Horsemen look to return to the Class 3A championship game.
Jason Ussery Jason Ussery 6'3" | 185 lbs | DB Los Lunas | 2024 State NM , Los Lunas: As a sophomore in 2021, Ussery saw limited playing time with the Los Lunas varsity. But he’s taken his game to the next level with New Mexico Legacy and looks primed to become a regular for the Tigers in the secondary as they transition to Class 6A. Ussery has good size (6-2, 185) and runs track too. And he has a weight GPA of 4.118, #1 in his class. If Ussery has a good season in 2022, college coaches will come calling.
David Barela, Las Cruces: Who’s the next great Las Cruces running back? It could be Barela. Bulldawgs head coach Mark Lopez told Prep Redzone New Mexico that Barela has all the tools to become a special RB and that the 2022 season is “his time to shine.”
Isaiah Abeyta Isaiah Abeyta 5'10" | 155 lbs | WR Centennial | 2023 State NM , Centennial: Centennial will have a new quarterback in 2022, but Abeyta and RB Mikah Gutierrez Mikah Gutierrez 5'8" | 160 lbs | RB Centennial | 2023 State NM return to give the Hawks one of the most dynamic RB-WR duos in the state. Abeyta was a First-Team All-District performer for Centennial in 2021. This coming season he should be one of the top players in southern New Mexico.
Kash Roberts Kash Roberts 6'0" | 190 lbs | RB Clovis | 2024 State NM , Clovis: Roberts had an outstanding season for Clovis as a sophomore in 2021 with 237 rushing yards and a team-high 35 receptions for 328 yards. But he flew under the radar because the Wildcats were 3-7 and made a quick exit from the Class 6A playoffs. If Clovis bounces back in 2022, Roberts will be a major reason why.
Honored to have coached @creedchavez since he was 9. He has been starter since his sophomore year at St. Michael's following our oppositions best receivers. Im not surprised to hear of the success he had in Phoenix. This kid can ball. #NextLevel #LockdownDB @nmpreps @NMrecruits https://t.co/xcIJiqe850
