With former Mesquite and top 2021 QB in Ty Thompson and former Chandler 2021 defensive standout Brandon Buckner both at Oregon, you had a feeling that there’s something cooking up in Eugene that is grabbing the attention of these AZ athletes. Earlier this year, top 2023 CB in Basha’s Cole Martin Cole Martin 5'11" | 175 lbs | DB Basha | 2023 State AZ blew up the news when he announced his commitment to Oregon. Now, Oregon lands the top 2023 WR in the state in Kyler Kasper Kyler Kasper 6'5" | 195 lbs | WR Williams Field | 2023 AZ .
Kyler Kasper Kyler Kasper 6'5" | 195 lbs | WR Williams Field | 2023 AZ , WR, Williams Field ’23
Kasper’s recruitment was a very interesting one to follow. The 6’5″ 195lb receiver held around 27 offers in total, which included Ohio State, Iowa, Notre Dame, Georgia, Tennessee, USC, Miami, UCLA, Arizona State, and Oregon in his top 10. What caught my eye was his maturity and football IQ with the ability to excel and adapt in all phases of the game at an early stage in his career. His recruitment kick started in October of his sophomore year (2020 season), with his first offer rolling in from Iowa State then following up with an offer from his father Kevin’s alma mater Iowa, where he was also standout WR and later went on to play in the NFL. After that, his recruitment took off as he has earned and deserved each and every bit of it. He checks all the boxes as a multi-year starter at the P5 level, and given Oregon’s talented young squad and scheme, Kasper projects as an ideal immediate fit with off the charts potential to do something special at Oregon.

Cole Martin Cole Martin 5'11" | 175 lbs | DB Basha | 2023 State AZ , CB, Basha ’23
Martin is another special player that has been well known in the country for a while now. His father Demetrice is the CB’s coach/Passing Game Coordinator at Oregon, which is a huge opportunity and an incredible experience for Martin to compete and play under his Dad. There’s no question that Martin is the most talented and well-polished DB in the state, and his ability to make difference with the ball in his hands on special teams frequently brings people to their feet every time he touches the ball. He transferred over to Basha from Hamilton last year, and has continued to play lights out and exceed expectations from every angle. Martin held over 33 offers and chose to stay in the west coast and put the clamps on the PAC-12 with his Oregon commitment. Excellent twitch with lateral mobility and fluid hips to be able to change direction on a dime without sacrificing speed or technique, and is a sure ball hawk and is always an identified pre-snap threat on defense. An obvious huge grab for Oregon, as Martin will be a fun player to watch throughout the years.

With two top names in the 2021 class at Oregon, and now the addition of two of the best 2023’s in the state, it looks to be the start of a promising pipeline. Which top AZ prospect will be next to follow in the footsteps of Kasper and Martin?
