Continue ReadingOne of the things I enjoy most about what I do are the player evaluation aspect of my job. Using film to break down where players excel and areas where growth is needed. Projecting what a player can be with continued growth, physically and cerebrally. Every player has different traits, are in different situations, and have different paths all of which make projection challenging. All that being said if you can play, you can play. That goes for whatever high school and college level we want to talk about. I solicited Twitter for players who wanted an evaluation. So let’s take a look at some of the players who responded.
QB Braden Mantooth Braden Mantooth 6'5" | 195 lbs | QB Pickerington Central | 2023 OH (C/O 2023) Pickerington Central 6’5 195
Areas of Strength
- Ideal size/height for a pocket passer
- Takes what the defense gives him, but doesn’t lock in on wr’s
- Accuracy
- Sneaky athlete who’s able to maneuver the pocket, roll out, and throw on the go
Areas for Growth
- Stretching the field vertically
- Velocity
Projection- D1 FCS- D1 FCS Mid-Major
SS/OLB Buba Bangura Buba Bangura 6'2" | 200 lbs | LB Westerville Central | 2023 State OH (C/O 2024) Westerville Central 6’2 205
Areas of Strength
- Explosiveness
- Special Combo of Size/Athleticism/Physicality
- Rawness, played well in spite of it being his first year of organized football
Areas for Growth
- Continue learning of the game
- Speed of read/react
Projection- D1 FBS Mid Major- Mid Level P5
RB Jakorion Caffey Jakorion Caffey 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Avon | 2024 State OH (C/O 2024) Avon 5’11 190
Areas of Strength
- Runs with great vision
- Elusive- does a great job of using tempo and shiftiness to elude would be tacklers
- Has the hands to be a 3 down back
- Good acceleration and solid long speed
Areas for Growth
- Continuing to add good weight and strength
- Playing through physicality/tackles
Projection- FBS D1 Mid Major- Mid Level P5
ATH Brylen Parker (C/O 2024) Van Wert 5’11 180
Areas of Strength
- Can play either side of the ball (I favor him as a DB)
- Great blend of athleticism and ball skills
- Breaks on and tracks the ball well
Areas for Growth
- Continued weight/strength
- Long speed
Projection- D2-D3
QB Ryan Rudzinski (C/O 2024) Bishop Watterson 6’4 185
Areas of Strength
- Really good blend of Size/Athleticism who can make plays on the ground or through the air
- Does a great job of eluding the rush
- Has live arm with good velocity
Areas for Growth
- Would like to see him rely on his legs a little less and his arm a little more
Projection- D2-D3
OL Spencer Inman (C/O 2023) Troy Christian 6’4 300
Areas of Strength
- Good size and feet
- Does a great job of sustaining blocks and playing to the whistle
- Probably athletic enough to play tackle but has a higher upside at guard
Areas for Growth
- Would like to see better hand placement and more of a punch
