Diving into 2023 Rankings: Quarterbacks

The quarterback position in the class of 2023 is one of the most impressive positions in terms of production. Quarterback is a position in the state of Arkansas that will see numerous prospects playing on Saturdays in the future. We are going to examine several quarterbacks that I expect to have big seasons and can all be found in the April update of the Prep RedZone Arkansas rankings. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="75133" first="Eli" last="Wisdom"]-Shiloh Christian-6’0” 180-Pounds</strong> Wisdom is a quarterback that is dangerous running the football as well as throwing it. Last season, Wisdom threw for 2,024 yards and 30 touchdowns. However, he contributed 669 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground. Wisdom has good command of the pocket. He does a great job of keeping his eyes down the field before using his legs to pick up yardage on the ground. With several scholarship offers to his credit the Shiloh Christian quarterback has a chance at a big season in 2022. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="75130" first="Cedric" last="Simmons"]-Malvern-6’0” 170-Pounds</strong> Simmons recently earned a scholarship offer from the Air Force Academy. When you watch his film that is something that is not that surprising. He is extremely effective running the football and is not afraid to use his legs to pick up yardage. However, Simmons throws a strong and accurate football. The Malvern quarterback is very impressive at keeping the opposing defenses honest when gets outside of the pocket. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="75141" first="Donovan" last="Whitten"]-Arkadelphia-6’3” 220-Pounds</strong> [player_tooltip player_id="75141" first="Donovan" last="Whitten"] is one quarterback that has been on a roll the past two seasons. He had an excellent season in 2021 and has set the stage for another strong season in 2022. Whitten performed well at the Elite 11 competition a few weeks ago. He has good pocket presence and knows when he needs to escape the pocket. Whitten does an excellent job of keeping his eyes down the field to find the open wide receivers. He is a quarterback that continues to climb up the Prep RedZone Arkansas rankings. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="97101" first="Luke" last="King"]-Hazen-6’2” 205-Pounds</strong> One of the most versatile quarterbacks in the class of 2023. King has no problem throwing the football while escaping the pocket. He has a strong arm and it is clear that the Tennessee-Martin coaching staff has seen the same traits. King earned a scholarship offer a few weeks ago from Tennessee-Martin and has the potential to earn some more over the next few weeks. King has a good sense of when to escape the pocket and does not mind picking up yards on the ground. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="135229" first="Weston" last="Pierce"]-Maumelle-6’3’ 180-Pounds</strong> The Maumelle quarterback throws an accurate pass. Pierce does a good job of fitting passes into some tight windows. He does an excellent job of keeping his eyes down the field and making the throws to his wide receivers. The Maumelle Hornets have a talented football team and Pierce is a quarterback to watch out for over the next few months. He has the opportunity to shoot up the Prep RedZone Arkansas rankings. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="160308" first="Hunter" last="Houston"]-Greenwood-6’2” 205-Pounds</strong> The Greenwood Bulldogs produce quality quarterbacks, and the pipeline is a deep one. In 2022, the quarterback to keep an eye on is [player_tooltip player_id="160308" first="Hunter" last="Houston"]. Houston throws an accurate ball and has the ability to fit the pass into some tight windows. He is another prospect that is dangerous when he is throwing on the run. Houston forces defenses to account for him and his ability to pick up yards on the ground. I expect Houston to have a strong 2022 season and Greenwood should make a playoff run in the process.
