It’s time to take a look at some of the best defensive linemen in the city of San Antonio. These young men are dirty, mean and nasty in the trenches, and have shown that they deserve recognition for their hard work. The big boys up front have a hard time dealing with these talented young players on the front line. Each and every game, the best defensive linemen make big plays and have shown that they have what it takes to play at the next level. With their excellent use of physicality, long arms, swatting down passes, and swimming off of blocks, they have shown superb skill. With that being said, let’s dive in! [player_tooltip player_id="259526" first="Johnny" last="Bowens"]- 6’5 245Ibs/DE/ Converse Judson High School Analysis: Being in the top of his class, [player_tooltip player_id="259526" first="Johnny" last="Bowens"] is a Texas A&M commit that has shown exponential talent. He has the size and speed to compete with the elite of the crop. He does an excellent job at getting off of blocks. He uses his long arms and hands to swat down passes and makes sure to do a good job tackling. He plays physical on the edge as well. Bowens is a four star prospect for a reason because he also makes plays in the backfield and runs down ball carriers consistently. [player_tooltip player_id="259526" first="Johnny" last="Bowens"] will continue to have success in the future if he keeps up this play. Braeden Flowers- 6’4 254Ibs/DE/ Central Catholic High School Analysis: Mr. Flowers is a superb athlete. He plays both Tight End and Defensive End. He racked up a total of 27 receptions, 485 receiving yards, 6 touchdowns, 15 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 2 pass deflections, 5 tackles for loss, and was first team all district last year! He is one of the best linemen I have seen. Flowers is a very hard hitter, stops the run very well, and makes sure to get pressure on the quarterback ! Not to mention he was first team All-State. Also, he does a good job keeping hid pad level low, and shedding blocks. In the open field and trenches, he is a very good tackler. Look for him to have a swell season his senior year! [player_tooltip player_id="259531" first="Gavin" last="Woods"]- 6’2 205Ibs/DE/ Smithson Valley High School Analysis: [player_tooltip player_id="259531" first="Gavin" last="Woods"] is an underrated defensive end in the city of San Antonio. His junior season he racked up 84 total tackles , 29 tackles for loss,17 sacks, 20 hurries, 4 batted balls, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery. He was 1st Team All-District in district 27-6A, impact player of the year, and 2nd team All-State. Even though he is a little undersized for a defensive end, he is a beast on the field. He lays the hat on opponents like none other. With his good technique and use of hands swimming off of blocks, he posses as a huge threat to opponents. He has excellent get off speed, and has a superb bull rush! Get of out of his way! Tackles have a hard time blocking him due to his quickness and speed! Keep your eye out on him this season! [player_tooltip player_id="136143" first="Thomas" last="Colligan"]- 6’3 230Ibs/DE/ Alamo Heights High School Analysis: [player_tooltip player_id="136143" first="Thomas" last="Colligan"] is a talented defensive player as well. He ran a 4.64 40 and was All-State while being the MVP of district 15-5a. He racked u a total of 18 sacks which was a school record, 12 tackles for loss, 55 total tackles, and 1 forced fumble. This young man is a stud! He has very good explosion and is an excellent pass rusher. He has good strength and size as well and can bully linemen when he needs to. He plays with a high motor. Finally, Colligan is a playmaker on defense, and does a really good job beating blocks and laying the wood on opponents to set the tone! Look out for him in the future! Ethan Dranowsky- 6'0 250Ibs/DE/ John F Kennedy High School Analysis: Ethan Dranowsky is a stout defensive end, even though he is only 6 feet tall, he plays with a chip on his shoulder! Dranowsky has racked up 100 total tackles, 66 assisted tackles, 6 sacks, and 12 tackles for loss. He has excellent strength and is poised to have a good senior season. This young prospect uses his bull rushing abilities, and shedding block ability is up their with the best. Also, he is a superb tackler, plays physical on the front line, and has a dangerous closing speed on the edge. Next, he is a playmaker for his team forcing fumbles and scoring touchdowns while doing it. He keeps his pad level low and continues to drive which shows his discipline! Look for him to have a bright future as well!
