Deep dive into the 2023 prospects from around the state that picked up their first collegiate offer in the month of March. Maki Piper, 2023, LB, Highline – First Offer from UNLV, Nevada Piper kicked off his recruitment with two Mountain West offers in March, first from UNLV then quickly followed up by Nevada. At 6'2” 217 lbs. the LB is a violent and physical force in the Highline defense. He's a downhill thumper that plays with good pad level, leverage, and leg drive to accelerate through contact and finish his opponents. As a LB, he shows a multi-dimensional skillset with his ability to fill a gap in run support, rush the passer on a blitz, or drop back in coverage and effectively play in space. He's patient with his reads to limit wasted movement and shows he can effectively shed blockers on his way to make a tackle. Good upside and potential to add more offers as the recruiting cycles progresses. https://twitter.com/makipiper3/status/1504558017743781888?s=20&t=6hKzte_vUeKl3vRfh239pA [player_tooltip player_id="155582" first="Kyle" last="Martin"], 2023, OL, Sumner – First Offer from Air Force, Army Martin pulled in his first two offers from military academies Air Force and Army in March. He possesses good size and frame at 6'3” 290 lbs. for an interior OL with the positional flexibility to play center or guard at the college level. Shows good bend coming out of his stance and the athleticism/mobility to get to his spot to establish positional leverage and execute different blocks with good footwork. Strong at the POA, he's a driver that attacks his blocks with good balance and leverage through contact. As a center, he communicates well and shows he can adjust to different defensive fronts pre-snap. He's quick to transition from snap to engaging with active hands and a strong initial punch. Good foundational skillset to build on and stack up offers. https://twitter.com/KyleMartin2023/status/1504616774154694668?s=20&t=gcGzzIM7FvP6EFUtZ7gMDw Jacob Lane, 2023, DE, Emerald Ridge – Offer from Air Force, Army, Columbia, Idaho Lane had a huge second half of March that saw him pull in his first four offers. Air Force came in first followed by Army then Columbia and Idaho most recently. At 6'5” 230 lbs. there's a lot to like about his skillset with a strong combination of size, speed, and athleticism coming off the edge. Shows he can effectively operate as a standup DE or with his hand in the dirt. He's quick and explosive out of his stance flashing excellent bend and body control as an edge rusher. Great command of a variety of moves to beat blockers using his athleticism and length to his advantage (dip, spin, swim, etc). Runs well to redirect and play sideline to sideline, recently ran a 4.75 lasered 40 at the National Preps Showcase. With his skillset and length, expect increased recruiting attention from Power 5 programs entering his senior year. https://twitter.com/JacobLane12_/status/1504262334264406018?s=20&t=_BXC50WRP7MGyyk9QjNShA [player_tooltip player_id="155591" first="Job" last="Kralik"], 2023, WR, Eatonville – First Offer from Army Kralik collected his first offer from Army in late March. At 5'11” 165 lbs. he's an impressive athlete that can be a game changer in all three phases. Flashes great all around speed, he fires off the LOS with good explosion and short area burst in his drive phase to quickly break cushion and force DB's to flip their hips. His long speed and sustained second gear allow him to breakaway from defenders and make big plays after the catch. Excellent ball skills and leaping ability to attack the ball at the high point and make tough contested receptions in traffic. As a junior, he racked up over 1,000 scrimmage yards and scored 14 touchdowns. Expect his recruiting stock to keep rising and another big statistical season as a senior. https://twitter.com/JobKralik/status/1507006466347061260?s=20&t=jiQpp9QyGznverpNLaqBxA [player_tooltip player_id="202530" first="Zion" last="Jones"], 2023, DB, Puyallup – First Offer from Yale Jones was listed as one of Prep Redzone's Stock Risers entering the 2021 season and picked up his first offer from Yale in early March. He checks a lot of boxes as a D1 CB with his combination of length, speed, and athleticism at 6'2” 175 lbs. He's a lockdown corner with great coverage instincts to matchup in man coverage with opposing teams top WR and cover the whole field. He's a gifted fluid athlete with quick feet and plus change of direction to match lateral movement and break on the ball. Smooth out of his back pedal showing good burst and acceleration in transition. Sharp with his technique and footwork with limited wasted movement. Plays the ball well in the air and competes on every play. Recruitment is just getting started and is receiving Power 5 interest. https://twitter.com/ZionJones0/status/1501735742241861633?s=20&t=cQ81j3OCa_3cIQ67W_474A [player_tooltip player_id="87438" first="Cade" last="Clyde"], 2023, TE, Connell – First offer from Air Force, Army Clyde's recruitment is building after collecting his first two offers from Air Force and Army in the last week. The big 6'3” 250 lb. TE is a plus athlete for his size with exceptional strength/power at the POA. He's a dominant inline blocker that can not only sustain but violently finish his blocks through the whistle with good controlled aggression and balance. As a receiver, he effectively attacks the short and intermediate levels by finding the soft spot in coverage and establishing positioning to be a big target for his QB. Confident in his soft hands, he shows he can make contested catches across the middle in traffic. Given his strength, he's a tough tackle with the ball in his hands especially for secondary defenders. His skillset could transition well to multiple positions at the college level depending on development and scheme. https://twitter.com/CadeClyde2/status/1508224558813179916?s=20&t=sh_LPxJ_WX8PUZhzFELX5w [player_tooltip player_id="202531" first="Conner" last="Noah"], 2023, ATH, Kelso – First offer from Nevada Noah secured his offer from Nevada at the beginning of March. The 5'11” 190 lb. RB/DB possesses a versatile skillset complete with speed, natural athleticism, and lateral quickness. As a RB, he's an instinctual ball carrier with great short area burst/acceleration through the first and second level. He does a great job making the first defender miss at the LOS and then uses his vision and ability to read blocks to hit the open lane with speed. He's a north/south runner that can make quick and explosive lateral cuts around defenders in the open field. Flashes a strong and sustained second gear with the top end speed to finish off long gains in the endzone. His recruitment is building with interest from a variety of D1 programs across the western region. https://twitter.com/connernoah4/status/1501033614968233986?s=20&t=NiZKrFj5Ry6Q7AIZ0md81A
Follow Jordan Reyes and Prep Redzone WA for more PRZ content and news for Washington High School Football. Want to be ranked?
